I don't think anyone can say that Highlands beat on anyone all night long. The referees allowed Belcher to do almost anything he wanted all night long. He was allowed to hook in the post to get to the basket, he was hammering players as they drove to the basket, (I think only had one foul called on him), and allowed to walk with the ball numerous times without it being called. The one travel was crucial with the game still up in the air and he hopped about 3 times right in front of the referee and it was not called. The next HHS possession the same referee called a travel on HHS that was very questionable. Belecher did shoot well from the free throw line, however he was put on the line quite frequently. Were they legit fouls? Probably, however he was returning the favor quite often at the other end and they were not being called. All in all, HHS played a very spirited game and they continue to improve each week. The offense looked to be more active most of the night and a number of players stepped up and made some shots.

I have not seen a game, so I cannot comment on that progression. Looking at box scores gives some indication as to how well players are doing offensively, but do not tell the whole story. Are the two senior centers contributing?

 

Hard to judge Highlands after they've lost their two best players?? One thing for sure, they haven't given up and are still playing hard; despite lacking much of an offensive threat!!

I am not saying that he does not have great footwork and that he is not a great player, both of those statements are facts. The other facts are that he obviously did walk at least twice in the game. Once he stumbled and fell into a HHS player and the block was called, the other he was making a great attempt to save the ball out of bounds and he skipped on one foot at least three times, both of which were obvious travels that were not called. In both cases he was attempting to make an athletic play and just got his feet tangled. In no way is this implying that he is not a very good player.

Scott Wise was not at the game last night, I believe he was on a college visit. I do not recall any pre season hype about the center position being the key to success this year. This team is very athletic and the more they use their atleticism the better they can be. I would love to see them play at a much faster pace regardless of who is on the floor.

That is not all I remember and all stated facts above are correct. Take nothing away from any of the players or the teams on the floor. Both teams played hard throughout the game. In any game good and bad calls are made and good and bad plays are made, in the end PC is a very good team on their home floor and HHS played them very strong. I personally think that Belcher is very talented and has the opportunity to play beyond High School. I wish him and the rest of PC the best for the remainder of the year. The Birds need to continue to work hard and still could very easily surprise some teams come tournament time.

Willie ball is not fast paced. To play a slow methodical game you better be strong in the post. Main discussion on the post players was since they had no experience would they progress to help the Birds. I was simply asking how those guys were playing. Sounds like you have attended some games. Please share some insight.

Qryche, that cry is getting pretty old..........The atmosphere is always great in the Woodshed - band playing and cheerleaders leading cheers. As far as total number of fouls, I think you got the correct stats from an earlier post. The PC fans dominate no matter what gym the Cats are playing in. Get over it! It could compare to the Bluebirds on the Collinsworth turf...........

 

Ant, I am glad my post intrigued you enough to make your 9th post EVER. I think its great that the whole community gets behind their Wildcats. I have a lot of respect for that because IMO that is what high school basketball is all about. I wish the Birds student body would take note of what they do down in Falmouth and step it up a little.

 

I am only making assumptions because there is a tremendous dropoff of talent at PC from the last 2 yrs to this year. For them to continue the streak at home is a tribute to their intestinal fortitude and super support from the fans. Nothing wrong with a little home cooking now and then but from what I am hearing it sounds like this game was won at the charity stripe for legitimate fouls so the refs had nothing to do with it. Congrats to the Wildcats and I hope the Birds continue to schedule them.

Since the Ant just joined in January of 2007, the post number is irrelevant. Many people on here have tons of posts and say nothing. I agree the refs did not decide the game. The best team won because they played a better game. By the way does #25 for the Birds play football. That young man has one heck of body.

Well, I am here to congratulate Coach Simms on a great win! I think it is so funny how everyone wants to cry (boo hoo) about refs all the time. Anyway, good job Simms!

Very very possible polarbear. The Cardinals are certainly a fine team, ranked number two in the region. Even if they do end it, its been one heckuva run for the Cats. An intersting thread would be home winning streaks across the state all time. Of course Brossart was supposed to end it as well.

That was against some pretty good teams. You should just hope it doesn't take your team another 6 seasons to beat PC again.:thumb:
