Helene is getting ready to make landfall in the Big Bend area. We are still getting storm surge and high wind gusts in the Tampa Bay area. That's how big this thing is.

Mrs. S and I am are staying with my sister this evening near Westchase in south  Hillsborough County where I used to live. Things have been hitting the house since around 7 pm. Something just hit the wall behind me. Fun stuff.

As of right now my cams are still active at my home in Largo, about 4 miles from the Gulf. Largo is the highest point in Pinellas County so we've had no flooding. My cams indicate no damage to my home, but several neighbors have had trees taken down, roofs lifted, and siding ripped off.

My daughter's condo is right on Tampa Bay and she is dealing with rising water at the moment. It has not gotten to her ground floor condo, but Channel 28's Dennis Phillips warns that the water may continue to rise until 2 am.

Wow, there is so much packed in there, so dangerous.  Be careful swamprat and take good care of Mrs. S.

This may effect Tampa Bay more that Irma did a few years ago. 

The city of Clearwater Beach is flooded. From what I understand a lot of St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, and Pass-A-Grill are under water. A quite a bit of Clearwater itself is flooded. The storm surge on this hurricane is huge even 100 miles from the center. 

A lot of stuff up on X and FB from Clearwater and the surrounding areas. The video of vehicles trying to cross the Howard Frankland Bridge just before it was closed is wild.

Helene continues to produce hurricane force winds that are moving 
further into Georgia. This is an dangerous and life-threatening 
situation. Persons should not leave their shelters and remain in 
place through the passage of these life-threatening conditions.  
When in the eye, people are reminded to not venture out in the 
relative calm, as hazardous winds will increase very quickly when 
the center passes.

An ASOS station at Alma Bacon County Airport in Georgia recently 
reported a wind gust of 91 mph (146 km/h). Another weather station 
in Douglas, Georgia recently reported a wind gust of 92 mph     
(148 km/h).
