After game fight between Butler and Pleasure Ridge Park

Featured Replies

Not sure what started this but you would think the coaches could keep the teams separated after the game.

Parents, get your kids and get out of JCPS.

Interesting...three years ago there was this topic involving Butler and Western, and PRP was mentioned in the thread as well...

It's so funny you always comment this response for anything Louisville. But, and probably shouldn't say this but I've heard some folks in KDE say the same thing.

Meanwhile at JCPS Headquarters.

Everyone outside of Louisville is anti-Louisville. That will never change.

You're certainly not pro-Louisville. ?

So I lived in Louisville for about a quarter of my life. While my wife was in med school, I couldn't put a point on exactly what the deal was with the attitude towards Louisville from elsewhere in the state and the attitude about the rest of the state from folks in Louisville. Then when my wife started residency in Louisville after med school there were three folks from Texas who came as part of the same residency program, and they made it bleedingly clear what the deal was.

Texans love to tell you about Texas. They love to point out that their state capitol is bigger than the US capitol. They love to point out how long it takes to drive from end to end in the state. They love to tell you how big the high school football games are, and how wild and crazy college games are at A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Texas. They love telling you what chili REALLY is, and what REAL barbecue is, and how to REALLY use a smoker. They actually think the Cowboys are "America's Team". Jefferson Countians and people from Louisville are not unlike folks from Texas, and if they think that's gonna make people around the rest of the state feel all warm and fuzzy about them, they're drastically mistaken.

So people not from Louisville act that way because of the way people in Louisville act? Yeah, I'm not buying that. It's the opposite in my experience.

I've had to defend Louisville since I was a kid, WELL before I ever lived here. People love coming here to eat, and go to the malls and attend awesome events and get things they can't get anywhere else in the state and in the next breath crap on the city.

The root of it is the rivalry, but people take it far beyond that.

The fact that you don't buy it, well, it kinda reinforces exactly how oblivious folks in Louisville are to the fact that they do it ?‍♀️

I mean, I'm speaking for folks from NKY and not elsewhere in the state, but I don't think many of us feel like there even is a rivalry. Which is why it's SUPER obnoxious hearing all about how much we hate Louisville schools, UofL, and all of that.

Me having a different opinion doesn't make yours right. LOL

I can't speak for everyone, only those I'm close to. We're not oblivious, we intentionally defend Louisville when it's necessary. Which is often to those who don't live here.

Everyone is loyal to their region, as they should be. All I know is that for my entire life I've heard about how awful everything about Louisville was. Again, this started long before I would have even considered myself an advocate of Louisville.

Here's a question... If people act the way they do about Louisville because of people from Louisville, how would you explain the disdain from people who never come here and don't even know anyone from here?

Because of the news, largely.

And I'm not saying there's not any misunderstanding from people around the state too, by any means. NKY is a little different, I think, because our news is coming mostly from Cincinnati, which doesn't really acknowledge Louisville much at all (which also probably explains a lot of why I wouldn't say many people in NKY strongly hold much disdain or rivalry or whatever for the folks on Louisville). But a lot of people in other parts of Kentucky don't have an understanding for the fact that almost 1 out of every 20 people in the state live in Jefferson County...and that's why Jefferson County makes it onto their news channels and into their papers so often. But I think there a lot of the parts of Kentucky that are so insular that they don't care to hear much of anything about what's going on in Jefferson County, and they frankly get annoyed with it when it's repeatedly in the news. Kinda like the some of the folks in Louisville who get salty about seeing UK sports news on WDRB and WLKY when "This is Louisville. We want to hear about the Cards. Quit wasting broadcast time on the Cats."

FWIW, NKY is the only other place in Kentucky that I'd live. ?

You would like it, it is nice up here and in my experience everyone gets a long with each other.
