Bozich slams the Cards...

Featured Replies

As far as I know, he's kept his nose clean since his college journey started, give the kid a shot.

He doesn't really slam the Cards, he basically says to know the costs of winning, and make sure that you don't sell your soul to the devil for a title.

These days you gotta sell a little bit one way or the other. Tons of teams cheat a little, picking up a solid LB with a "clean" college record can only help UL.

It's not like UofL has done anything illegal in the process to get this guy... and once he screws up, IF he screws up, then he's gone. It's a pretty simple thing. He's done a ridiculous amount of dumb things in his past, and that doesn't mean we have to like him as a person, but if he has somehow FINALLY learned his lessons, and can ball, then there won't be anything to say about UofL's decision.

Like I've said before, people deserve second chances. He appears to be taking advantage of his, since he's been out of trouble for a few years now.

He grew up in a bad situation, and his sins were as a minor... we shouldn't even KNOW about them. But we do, and they'll haunt him everywhere he goes. Not exactly how our juvenille system is supposed to work, but if he keeps it turned around it will be a source of strength. Good luck to him.

UL has had good success with felons/convicts in the past few years:

Jointa Woodard

Montrell Jones

Mario Urrutia

Chris Vaughn

J.R. Russell

The paintball guys this year

Nate Harris

Rod Council and now the biggest test of all...

Wilie Williams.

I wonder if Bozich ever did anything wrong as a teen or if he has been perfect all of his life.

Vaughn was the paintball guy.

Of that list, only one had a serious run in while at U of L (Woodard) and that was when I was, what, 2001? Johnelle's tenure, for sure.

After that, the only incident at U of L was the paintball thing. Stupid to be sure, but it wasn't quite on the level of most of what you hear about in the crimes and misdemeanors section of the Sports page.

Every other guy on your list was/has been clean on campus, and a few really turned themselves around and became positive forces.

And felon/convict, does that really apply to everyone on your list?

Vaughn was the paintball guy.

I had forgotten about Vaughn being involved with the paintballs too. I was referring to him being kicked out of ND for his legal run-ins. Brandon Long was the other guy: http://www.whas11.com/sports/stories/102306cckkWHAS11footballplayers.6a32c32f.html

I agree. That's why I said UL has had good success with these convicts/felons, except for Vaughn.

Do TN and WVU turn down every student who has a felony conviction or just athletes?

I think so:

Harris, Council and Williams for sure. All three have felony convictions, so they are felons.

I guess Long and Vaughn are now convicts. Jones was convicted of drug charges so he's a convict too.

Woodard for sure was a felon with 15.4 ounces of marijuana.

Urrutia was the one that assaulted an officer at a fight. Not sure if that was a felony.

And I don't remember if Russell had a misdemeanor or felony conviction while growing up in Tampa.

It's not important whether they are felons or convicts. The important thing is that UL is having success with these once troubled men.

So that's 2 out of 9 that have had a run in with the law while at UofL. I'd that's about average for 17-22 year olds in or out of school. It's probably a little higher at Duke.

He could be far from perfect and still not keep pace with this dude. Remember, arrested 11 times computes to being involved in illegal behavior about a thousand times.

You comment totally misses the issues involving Bozich's article.

But never in his adult life.
