Jumper_Dad Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Great news for young Baseball and Softball players coming up. I feel that with football numbers going that high, it will end walk-ons.

LOL That was the one sport that I didn't think would have the scholarships # adjusted.
Tranquility Base Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Since most of the NIL money will go to football and basketball players, take those additional 22 scholarships and give them to lesser sports, or, better yet, turn them into academic scholarships for some kid that needs assistance getting through college without the prospect of a multi million dollar NFL contract at the end of it, but maybe a $40,000 teaching job.
Jumper_Dad Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 I can agree with everything you said. I think the other side of it is that those last 22 scholarships by in large aren't going to future NFL players. They will go to a lot of kids that if it weren't for the opportunity to play football either wouldn't even consider furthering their education or don't have resources to attend college. After all across all sports, less than 2% will ever cash a pro check. 1 1

A breakdown I came across online earlier, seemed as though scholarship numbers were increasing for every sports. With big jumps for sports like wrestling, gymnastics, and swimming.
TheDeuce Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 An increase in scholarships for some sports will mean the reduction in others. I can see non-revenue sports going away in some instances. 1
swamprat Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 The NCAA has to do something before the power 4 conferences breakaway. Allowing more scholarships, increases the hording of athletes by the those conferences, exactly what would happen if those conferences formed their own association. 1
