That optimism is justifiable. Doss gets back its best all-around player Jordan Robertson, the entire offensive line, and six of its top seven tacklers.

Most JCPS schools are wildly unpredictable from year to year. Atherton and Jeffersontown were "up" last season. Doss could be due this year.

Coach Mandeville has a lot of energy and I think a key factor to a lot of jobs is he wants to be there. Look forward to see what Coach Mandeville and the Doss Dragons can achieve this season.

Good luck to Coach Mandeville and the Dragons!  There is talent in the hallways; it will just take someone to harness that talent IMO.  Hope they have a great season!

My only trip to Doss was the opening round of the 2016 Playoffs as an upstart Dragons squad hosted a down Highlands team and would go on to prevail 52-32.  I got to meet @THUNDERBIRDS at that game!

That Highlands crew following them were intense!  I hope the facilities have improved at Doss.  They were not great back in 2016.

The Dragons had a hard time finding the endzone last year. They had a lot of new faces on their offensive and defensive lines. Speaking frankly, I felt like their QB was better suited as a running back, so between the fact that he oftentimes was dodging defenders shortly after the snap and then his less-than-optimal passing ability, Doss' average of fewer than 60 passing yards per game is definitely something they'll be working hard to improve upon this year. Not sure who they will tap as quarterback this year after graduating last year's QB.

Jordan Robertson is a speedster, and he's a real threat if you can get him into space. I'd love to see them run some pitch-plays or try screen passes to him a little more. He also led the team in tackles last year from outside linebacker, with 52 solo tackles, 34 assisted tackles, and 13 TFL.

The defense returns 4 of their 5 leading tacklers. After Robertson, D-linemen Jameaze Hollis & Nasir McFadden should be a definite impact on the DL. Hollis is 6'1" 238lbs and was #2 in tackles last year (32 solo, 12 assisted, 9 TFL) and McFadden is 6’3" 283lbs and was #3 in tackles (27 solo, 17 assisted, 17 TFL). Joshua Decius was 5th in tackles last year and also will be back as a senior. The 6'0" 215lb linebacker had 23 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, and 2 TFL.

Definitely a lot of players coming back this year for Coach Mandeville to work with!
