I loved this graphic that was floating around Thursday night.   Covered all the bases, I think.  Pretty sure it was Capt. Obvious that broke the story.

To compare what Bronny has to live up to based on the Lakers pick in the 2023 draft. They took Jalen Hood-Schifino in the first round at pick #17 he had the following stats in his rookie year.

21 games, 5.2 minutes per game, 22.2% from the field, 13.3% from 3, 60% from the line, 1.6 points per game.

Their 2nd round pick at #40 was Maxwell Lewis here are his stats from his rookie year.

34 games, 3.0 minutes per game, 19% from the field, 11.1% from 3, 66.7% from the line, .3 points per game.

I think that Bronny can probably put-up stats as good or maybe a little better, but if he puts up these stats because of whose son he is he will be crucified.

Your last paragraph has some validity, but both players you’re referencing were higher graded players and like most draftees spent a lot of time in the G League. That is where Bronny should be, probably on some kind of two way deal.

Minutes will be hard to come by, especially when you have a player with no discernible NBA skill set (not saying this can’t develop). His way on the court will be defensively in some spot minutes. Though it’ll be a challenge since he is a very undersized SG that doesn’t shoot the ball well. Max Christie is ahead of him on the depth chart for the type of player I see him being and he is not in his stratosphere (yet).

I expect the Jameses to share the court early on for ceremonial purposes, but most of the time he will not see action, unless it’s in South Bay.

Who are the best players not drafted? Anyone who has a chance at making it?

Justin Edwards? He signed a two way deal with Philadelphia. I’m always in on highly touted players that didn’t take off early on.

There were 3 players drafted after Bronny. The Lakers didn't miss out out any player by drafting Bronny. Much ado about nothing. So he's the 55th pick. Who cares besides the James family?

Most likely you’re correct on all fronts. Some notable players taken in year’s past 50 and later: Patty Mills (#55), Manu Ginobili (#57), Marcin Gortat (#57),  Kyle Korver (#51), Luis Scola (#57), and Monte Morris (#51). I suppose one could say taking Bronny is just as much as a gamble as taking a flyer on Justin Edwards (e.g.). I doubt Laker management believes that, but it is not worth the risk of upsetting their star player who they’ve turned the franchise’s keys over to.

Regarding the last sentence.  Are you listening, JJ?
