The Reds come in at 18-25 and in last place.  The Dodgers are 29-15 and in 1st place in the NL West.

Of course, facing one of the best pitchers in the NL, the offensively challenged Reds put up 7 runs to win game one of the series 7-2.

This is kinda crazy. Looking at this plus injuries and there could be some better days ahead as starters return and the schedule eases up some.

I realize the first half schedule is tough, but I did not expect Reds to be in this position at this point even with the injuries.

Relying on young players at the heart of your team is a roll of the dice. Had Elly at the plate two different times late in the game with runners at 2nd and 3rd and he struck out. Steer also up in one of those situations and couldn't get the key hit needed, although he worked a walk after fouling off 3 or 4 pitches that he should have crushed. He actually did crush one but pulled it foul.
