Ashland 85 Boyd County 47

Featured Replies

Sheesh.

Ashland (10-4) brings the recently crowned "2A" champs down a peg or three. A 29 point first quarter outburst from the Kittens put Boyd County (14-5) in a hole before burying them with a 32-4 run to close out the game.

High Pointers

Ashland ? - Kenleigh Woods 36 ? | Gabby Karle 12 | Ella Sellars 11

Boyd County ? - Jasmine Jordan 29 (only Lion in double figures)

I’ve seen Biggs from Boyd County in action and I have no idea how any team could keep her from scoring double figures unless she was sick or injured. Does anyone have some info on this.

She was healthy. It was a rough shooting night for her (1/12 from the field) combined with deferring to Jordan, who had a significant matchup advantage down low.

That’s still just baffling that Ashland could beat them by 38 points. Head scratcher to me. I’ve seen both teams on streaming services and imo there’s not much difference in them. But if Biggs was 1/12 Ashland has to be credited with some fantastic defense. She had 32 against us in our opening game of the season in a tournament in McKee.

I have seen both in person, and as much as I LOVE Woods' game for Ashland (for NKY fans, think a game similar, maybe even a "little" better, to Anna Hamilton), who missed their two losses to CAL and Anderson County, I'd have thought Boyd would have been the mild favorite in this one.  Ashland doesn't have a lot of size, which Boyd does with Jordan and Biggs, and while they can make it really hard for the ball-handler and denying inbounds passes, I still thought Boyd would have been a half-a-tick better.  Way wrong.

Congrats to Coach Davis, her staff, and the Kittens, this is one that grabs people's attention.

That return trip, at Boyd County, on February 6th, will be one to keep an eye on.

I’m wondering if Boyd had a letdown coming off their Class 2A championship. Of course, with this being their biggest rival that’s hard to phantom as well.

Hard to believe by looking at the final score, but it was 53-43 with a minute and half left in the 3rd quarter.

Boyd made a push in the 3Q to tighten the game up and then Kenleigh Woods happened. She had a few run-out layups in the final minute or so to grab momentum for Ashland and Boyd never recovered.

Like the Boyd/Ashland boys, these two will meet at least two more times. Very little chance we see a score like this happen again.

She actually had 10 straight herself.

32-4 run to end the game?  What on Earth?!?!

Ashland closed the 3Q on a 10-0 run, including a flurry of layups by Woods in the final minute. The 4Q was a 22-4 quarter for the Kittens. Once the snowball started rolling, it looked like Boyd just wanted to get out of there.

Is Anderson Gym still a good/great home court advantage for Ashland teams now? Seemed that was the case at the AIT many moons ago during my last visits. I may be thinking of their "old" gym?

I haven't been to a game there in ages, but it can get loud in there with a full house. It looked like Ashland outnumbered Boyd 2-1 in the stands. More than enough people for the team to feed off the energy. Nothing like the boys game last week, but still a good turnout.

Ashland moved out of the old Alumni Gym some sixty years ago.
