January 22, 200719 yr In the wake of the Broncos' Darrent Williams' murder in Denver, and other shootings in that city involving pro athletes, the NBA this past week ordered its security forces in all 29 cities to come up with a list of clubs and other night spots that should be made off-limits to players. Once the clubs are identified, with the help of local law enforcement, the league will send a directive to teams mandating that players avoid those spots or be subject to a substantial fine. January 22, 200719 yr I'm with HT. It comes off as if they are in high school or college and are telling the players they cant do what they want. Treating them like children wont fly. It's a good thought, but will never work out IMO.
January 22, 200719 yr There is NO way the players association will let this happen. Agreed. That'd be like telling them can't go to Jamaica because they could get in trouble, shot, or robbed. This is a free country, (or at least we claim it is) you can't tell grown adults where they can and cannot go.

January 22, 200719 yr I understand the NBA's concern and attempt....BUT these are grown men and they are fully capable, of making their own decisions.....albeit right or wrong. Any accident, is certainly a tragedy and I don't see this getting player union approval, if it goes that far. Too much regulation, is a bad thing....parents often send their own children on their own, with less restrictions than the NBA is attempting. What is next, No salad for fear of salmonella....No, entering buildings that aren't smoke free....No, staying up late night and watching cable....:confused: Market your players, as athletes, entertainers and teams....rather than trying to micromanage their lives, NBA brash.

January 22, 200719 yr If the image of the NBA is what allows them to continue to be in business and allows them to expand overseas and the actions of the players are damaging that ability, why can they not limit it? Remember it is a PRIVILEGE to be a NBA player, not a right. They are the ones that are signing contracts that can limit their participation in dangerous activities. (we have heard of reports limiting the athlete in riding motorcycles, sky diving, etc.)
