The 25 yo pitcher signs with LA.  12 years, $325 Million.

Dodgers now have over a billion dollars tied up in 2 players over the next decade +.   Crazy.  Baseball needs to reign this in or it will be the same 3 or 4 team race every year.

Expensive individual talent doesn't always mean team chemistry.  With the exception of 2020, the Dodgers have found ways to blow it in the playoffs.

Someone said that the Dodgers would recoup the entire billion with a Japanese TV deal.

I hope nkypete is right. And there is an argument to be made that he is right. Look what happened to the Mets this past year despite a big spending spree. Baseball is the most nuanced of the major sports and the sport where it is more difficult for the top end talent to dominate. I think that it is true in a 7 game series or a shorter series it isn't always going to be the team with the most stars. 

I do think where the challenge comes in is over the regular season. Is there any chance the Dodgers don't make the playoffs? I think next to none. So the risk is the high end payroll teams are going to be in the playoffs year after year and the opportunities for the other teams shrink with fewer playoff slots available. That's where expanding the playoffs has been a very good move by MLB. I like the expanded playoffs and I think the one game and 3 game early round series help the teams with lower payroll and fewer studs have a chance
