HC sat back in that 1-3-1 a lot which helps keep TOs low for CCH.

"D" is what wins games and, you could just see it in the second half. Can't say enough about A. Noll, JD, Grimes, BB and Luke.....

 

I am still sick about Billy. He worked so hard, and loves and understands the history of the Colonels and is so pround to be able to wear the CovCath uniform. He will be missed......but not forgotten....

Really sorry to hear about Billy--Great kid and was looking forward to seeing him play some more this year!! Best of luck to him and heal soon!!

Earlier you said Eifert had trouble finding anyone to guard man-to-man. So did HC play a lot of man, or a lot of zone?

Solid win for the Colonels.

Great job by the Colonels! Indians played them even in the first half but as I've said all year, the lack of depth caught up with them again. HC played 6 guys and by the half way mark of the 3rd quarter, they were exhausted. Corey Sorrell did have 15 points but he really wasn't on his game tonight probably due to the transfer thing. Jimmy Ryan played great defense on Jacobs but paid for it offensively, throwing up at least three air balls due to no legs. Giwa basically scored at will whenever he wanted to until they put Brown on him.

Scruggs surely would have helped with the numbers thing but he didn't play at all. I think it was a team rules thing but I'm not sure. I know he's not injured though.

CCH continues it's dominance over HC.

HC needs to forget this game and focus on St. Henry in the All A Classic Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs now loom in the district opener.

Just looked at the stats.

HC is not going to win many big games when Jimmy Ryan goes 2/9 from the field and 0/6 from 3 point land for a total of 4 points.

Aaron Noll stepped up big for CCH when Schult when down (watched the whole thing and it just made me cringe. Very reminiscent of something that happened to a certain number 9 about a year ago :cry: ).

As time ticked away in the Covington Catholic basketball team's crucial district victory over Holy Cross, the teams' coaches, knowing the issue was no longer in doubt, cleared their benches.

 

Holy Cross coach Erik Goetz pointed to the first five junior-varsity players he could find and sent them in the game. CovCath coach Mike Listerman looked all the way down his bench, but found it hard to locate someone who hadn't already contributed significantly.

 

"We preach depth and everybody contributing," Listerman said afterward.

 

Nearly everyone did contribute in CovCath's 68-55 home win Friday night. Nine players scored for the Colonels (to just five for the Indians), and the CovCath reserves outscored their Holy Cross counterparts 15-0. While Goetz played just six players most of the game, Listerman rotated 10.

 

But none made a bigger impact than forward Michael Grimes.

Brandon Brown owned Giwa for quite a few stretches in that game, I though that was really fun to watch.

 

Eifert was solid and has come a long way since freshmen year.

 

This was quite easily the best game that the Colonels have played all year; it would have been a blowout if they could make a free throw.

 

The atmosphere was incredible; HC's fans started showing up at 4:30, while CovCath's freshmen practice was still going on.

Tough Break for Schult and the Colonels but a nice win overall against a formidable opponent. HC seems to have no depth whatsoever and that will hurt them come tourney time. Grimes played a Danny Noll'esque game it seems. For those who dont remember, Noll absolutely owned Highlands in last year's 9th region tourney. Hit anything he wanted and did anything he wanted. Grimes seemed to have that kind of a night. Congrats to the Colonels.

 

The best thing I am hearing about the Colonels and something I can appreciate is the way they pass the ball and find the open man. Unselfishness will take you further than pure talent.

So does this win basically mean that Holmes and Holy Cross will play each other in the first round of the districts?

They played both. For a stretch in the 3rd, they played man and that's when Eifert was having mismatch problems. They played a 1-3-1 quite a bit.

So does this win basically mean that Holmes and Holy Cross will play each other in the first round of the districts?

 

They will.
