LMPD cleared the scene, no threat. Said they would be releasing more info when they have it.

Swatting has been a problem for a long time...

Seems like schools in Cincy, Louisville, Lexington and Evansville were all "SWAT'ed" today.

I've never heard that term until today.

It's been a thing for several years. Much bigger problem in larger cities with fake calls used to elicit a huge police response.

What JD said.

And, on a much smaller scale, it happened on occasion when I was in public safety.

So swatting is a fake threat of violence?

When I was a freshman at Boone County, we got fake bomb threats all the time until Administration threatened to cancel Spring Break because of lost class time. Tht ended real quick.

Google Definition:

Swatting - the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.

Wikipedia Definition:

Swatting is a criminal harassment act of deceiving an emergency service (via such means as hoaxing an emergency services dispatcher) into sending a police or emergency service response team to another person's address. This is triggered by false reporting of a serious law enforcement emergency, such as a bomb threat, murder, hostage situation, or a false report of a mental health emergency, such as reporting that a person is allegedly suicidal or homicidal and may or may not be armed, among other things.

The term is derived from the law enforcement unit "SWAT" (special weapons and tactics), a specialized type of police unit in the United States.

Wow!  And I wonder if we could just be at the tip of the swatting iceberg.
