Raceland 59 Rose Hill 51

Featured Replies

The problem is obvious to me from the stat line. Faulkner gets 15 shots and Queen and Terry a combined 21. The ball has to be in those two player's hands if Rose hIll wants to win. It doesn't really matter how it gets there. Raceland must have palyed a great defensive game. The Hill missess Kayla Faulkner. She made them go last year and got the ball to the right places. The problem of youth can't be solved. This happens at all small schools. Sometimes the players just aren't there or are not ready yet. If it takes terry bringing the ball up the floor, then let her do it. If you are lucky enough to have 2 players like Queen and Terry, put hthe ball in their hands and see what happens. The younger kids will grow mature and will get better, but this year let the stars handle the game and I think the results will improve.

You may well be correct...I just have different view of what would have been more effective. And let me say that to articulate that view is not to disparage a coach or a coaching staff. I am fully aware of who misses shots, fails to play defense and so forth.

As for rebounding...you'll get no argument from me. What I regret is the lack of real straighforwardness here...and I realize it gets more difficult when one's identity becomes known. I have tried to be direct and speak to particulars without being overly critical and personally demeaning. I think one should give credit to where credit is due and not simply lump players together in their criticisms...lack of effort, rebounding, etc.

Seals was held to 8 points...not a bad defensive effort there. Dare we say who guarded her?!! Emily had 13 rebounds and I thought she worked hard...from the first whistle. Did she make mistakes? You bet...and they've been recorded and discussed. Vanderhoof...a really solid young player...had a tremendous game. Laura, having taken only two shots the first half, never really got involved in the offense and it affected her play on both ends of the floor. She did not have her best defensive effort against Vanderhoof. Now, we love her in this household...and I assure you I could speak to her in those exact words (and I've done so...having coached her). Brit, in my view, should have been taken out immediately upon picking up her second foul and allowed to settle down emotionally...and that she was not took its toll.

As for primetimers stepping up...let me continue to speak bluntly here. Readers will have already seen that according to some, the Lady Royals suffer from "Queen ball." Now...she hit 8 of 12 shots from the floor, had 13 boards (hard-earned in that game as those present I trust would attest), 6 steals (unless TheWalrus is to be believed and those numbers were padded), and 4 assists, and yet was told she played selfishly. What do you think would have been the reaction had she "taken over" as some have suggested?

I dont' think she or anyone else should go against the direction of their coaches and try to "take over." That may be the case when players are paid to perform, but this is the level at which kids are still learning to respect the authority of a coach and hopefully will be required to do whatever they are told...regardless of however much they or I disagree with it. Obviously, when I make the kind of remarks I have made with respect to those directions, it is at odds with some of the coaching decisions. I'm just talking here...and aren't we all...not trying to trash a coach. My remarks should not be construed as a personal attack or an undue criticism of any coach. I'm just an armchair (and bleacher) coach...the same as the rest of you.

Queen is a great player and it seems that she attempted to do whatever was necessary to allow her team to win last night. Many people comment on the athletic prowess of Whitney Seals but I definitely think that the same could be said of Emily!! Great player, great effort! Maybe a little more "Queen"Ball might have been in order last night!!

Britt seems to play borderline outta of control on offense and defense. Two of the fouls called on her were of the ticky-tack variety but she probably could have had several more on reaches while playing her ball hawking defensive style.

spell check not working, but you can figure it out

Hey, I went to public schools...I can figure it out!!:D:p :thumb:

Just kidding people...I was a Tomcat...still have my jacket...loved it there...love and respect Herb Conley more and more with every passing year (still afraid of him though)...loved my English teacher...had a great time...I'M JUST KIDDING!!! Please...just laugh with me...I crumbling under the abuse!!

Relief at last...much appreciated.

Be strong, Bogeyman...it gets rough on these pages.:D

Absolutely no offense taken and I certainly read no "slam" into your words. When I used the work "overstate," that's all I meant...just trying for clarity nothing more. I would hope that nothing that has been said here would escalate into hard feelings or trouble...here or beyond. It's because all of this is in fact so interesting that such discussions develop. It is why I read BGP.:thumb:

:thumb: :thumb: No problem on this end either.

There is too much emphasis on what Rose Hill didn't do and too little on what Raceland did. We need to acknowledge the fine effort of Raceland.

Finally someone to bring balance to this discussion, thanks SB:thumb:

Now, that isn't to imply favoritism but to point out that, if any of Rose Hill's three best known seniors spent a material amount of time on the bench, the Lady Royals could not win. And, that is how it happened. Period.

Taking three experienced senior starters from any team and putting one or more of them on the bench would be a problem for most teams. Seals from Raceland sat most of the second quarter last night because of foul trouble. She also played 4 minutes of the 4th quarter with 4 fouls.

The officiating isn't to blame in this case. The whistles blew both ways, good and bad on both ends of the court and the fouls were fairly even.

RH has quality players and the younger girls have definitely improved since the beginning of the season. #10 hit some big shots from the outside. Good luck RH the rest of the season.

You are right about the Ref's not costing RH the game but the cold harsh reality of the truth is this...Brit Faulkner is a target, call it conspiracy or call it a joke, she gets hammered by calls that the officials do not make on anyone else, and it only happens in this region. I am not defending her as a person or a baller, all that I am saying what happened two-three years ago At another school that is very political...Ashla I mean Russe well they are both alike) is still haunting her. It is not right and it is not fair to her, RH and the 16th Regional fans to see her sit b/c of phanthom fouls being called on her. If she would let a stink in the Locker room at half time there would be some ref there to blow the whistle and call an Intentional Blatant passing of Gas Foul. If she fouls then blow the whistle but they anticipate her every move, she is a kid, give her a break. What goes around comes around. They called her for carrying the ball last night and she over re-acted and was assessed a Technical Foul (She deserved the T for running her mouth) but my goodness look at all the other players from RH and Raceland that carried the ball when they dribbled, not to pick on Seals but she carried 3-4 times in the open court and nothing was called. You are right that the Ref's didnt cost RH the game but they sure didnt call it both ways either. Some think that this is just in the minds of RH'ers but when RH plays out of this Region the calls are very different. Gearheart is probably the best Ref we have, that being said, the other male Refs ought to stand up and take notice and learn from the Ex-West Carter Phenom. This is FP (frustrated Post) so deal with it or have the Ref Frat club that meets between Fairview and Raceland blow some more phanthom calls against Faulkner

Congratulations to the Lady Ram seniors they have worked together and overcame alot of adversity and hopefully they can leave a lasting legacy for the Lady Ram program come Saturday. If any group of kids deserve a shot to play at Richmond it sure is these senior girls!

Hey, I am rooting for the Lady Rams to go all the way. Coach Trimble has done an outstanding job with them. Give him a 5 year opportunity to build a feeder system and he will have a little dynasty down there.

Regardless of the reason or reasons for what takes place and regardless of your personal loyalties and prejudices, all of you (if honest) must admit that there is at least an element of truth to the main theme of GottaRebound's post. I applaud him/her for being up front enough to express it because I have heard it discussed a goodly number of times by pro-Rose Hillers, anti-Rose Hillers, and by those who don't care one way or the other. I have heard some condemn it and I have heard others condone and support it. The point is that, right or wrong, it is seen as an issue.

Congratulations to the Lady Ram seniors they have worked together and overcame alot of adversity and hopefully they can leave a lasting legacy for the Lady Ram program come Saturday. If any group of kids deserve a shot to play at Richmond it sure is these senior girls!
