Fall Break Special: Thursday Night Showdown

Christian County (2-3) at Bowling Green (4-2)

The Colonels head east along 68-80 to take on Bowling Green for the 37^th time.  The series began in 1967.  The Purples lead the all-time series 29-7 with the last Colonel victory a memorable 2010 Regional Semifinal win in Hopkinsville 14-10. 

More recently, these 2 were 5A district mates in 2019 through the 2021 season and last played last year in Christian County with BG winning 50-7.  But with the merging of the 2 prominent Christian County schools (Christian County High and Hopkinsville), they will not be in 5A together likely ever again.  But I am a HUGE fan of keeping the Christian County name and going with the Tigers as mascot name.  Appreciate that and know most Christian County folks likely feel the same way.

Christian County has been pretty effective passing the ball this year with QB Jordan Miles passing 67 times with 39 completions for 473 yards and 5 TDs vs 3 INTs on the year (4 games of stats reporting).  Miles also has been effective rushing 42 times for 208 yards and 3 TDs.  The problem is there really isn’t anyone else that has been able to generate much offense for the Colonels.  Defensively, DB Devontravion Wilford leads County with 28 tackles on the year with 5 tackles for a loss and 1 sack.

The Purples look to head into Fall Break on a continued uptick.  BG lost 2 of the first 3 games of the year by a combined 7 points but have come out on the other side playing good football and getting players healthy again defeating the last 3 teams they have faced 159 to 13.  But the teeth of the district schedule is still ahead, along with a tough matchup with a top 6A squad in St Xavier.  Long way to go!

Love the Thursday Night getting all out for Fall Break a day/night early.  Well done.

How do you see this one going?

The only thing that stops this from Bowling Green winning the final 21 games of the series before the merger was two literal minutes of madness in that 2010 game. Still among the crazier endings I’ve ever heard of. 
 

This game? A hideous beating like almost every game the two teams have played since. Bowling Green big.
