Sam Marple was just named the Head Coach for the upcoming season. IMG_8833.thumb.png.2c3b1eee5851ee17a07b52912857531c.png

The pull of coaching again must have been too much. He was named principal at Taylor County High School in March, but reportedly had to give up his position as head football coach to fill the administrative role.

Best of luck to him in Stearns. Historically a very hard place to win. Only two winning seasons for the Pirates since 1990 with several winless years sprinkled in.

That must be a very strong pull.  I don't know how someone can give up Principal money to coach ball.

Especially at McCreary Central. Maybe there's more here we don't know?

Gosh I hate to be negative but unless the money is pretty close I think there almost has to be more we don't know about.

No crazy conspiracy here. Seems like he wanted to continue coaching and the Raiders are giving him the chance to do that.

Also, I’m relatively certain he will be in an administration position at some capacity at McCreary Central.

All that makes sense, thanks.

Marple did well at both Casey County and Taylor County. McCreary Central is a different animal without much history, but he might be the best hire they’ve ever made. They had a solid middle school club last year, too, so the future seems bright.

I was just getting ready to ask about the middle school football program and boom.

To clarify, it was a solid 5-6 grade team. I didn’t see the 7-8 grade team. The younger group was big so I’m guessing so Covid repeats in the group.
