McCreary Central 48 Boyle County 44 (12th Region Quaterfinal)

Featured Replies

12th Region POY Kyle Stephens led the way with 27 points.  (And had to be double digit rebounds)  The Rebels were without PG Montavin Quisenberry, but got a combined 21 points from Avery Bodner and Jack Little.  Hard fought game.  I believe the 4 best teams in the 12th region remain!

Congrats to McCreary.  When was the last time they won a region game?

Last season.  They beat Mercer in 1st round.  This is quite the run for their school/community.  3 straight District titles, With arguably best player in school history and in traditional powers Wayne/SW district.  If anyone has watched their JV it’s likely it will be a long time until they make this kind of run again.  Coach Davis is 1st class and runs a good program.

They had similar run 2007-2010 with Aaron Watts (sharpshooter) leading the way.  Could never get over hump.  Not sure this team has enough firepower either, but def a punchers shot!

Boyle was definitely missing Montavin tonight, but POY Stephens is the real deal. I'm kind of curious on why Boyle didn't play 6'5 Hager alot? Seems like him and Tarter would play together and be a match up problem.

Hager was impressive early in season, and just kinda seemed to get lost in shuffle.  He is def a talent to watch for.

Boyle no doubt missed Quisenberry tonight, but other teams have endured injuries/illness too.

I didn't go or watch online so I'm not sure exactly how the game played out and forgive me if this question is stupid:

Would McCreary have been able to keep Quisenberry from penetrating and getting to the rim? From an outside perspective that was probably going to be the difference in the game. Seeing Boyle only scored mid-40s makes me think he would have changed the flow of the game, if not the outcome.

I’m sure they would’ve backed off and forced the 3 PT shot, so to answer question maybe.  I think before game if you tell Boyle Bodner/Little combines for 21 then they feel in good shape.  Meyes and Tarter really just didn’t get it going like I expected.  McCreary does have pretty solid strength/size collectively.  They’re all SRs I believe.

If Tavi plays Boyle wins.

Easy to say in hindsight.

Maybe, but should’ve won this one without him.

If not for blunders, at end of 3rd Q MC could’ve potentially expanded this game out.  It was a pick’em to me going in with everyone healthy, and switched slightly McCreary when Quisenberry ruled out.

McCreary is 22-11 now and drilled Wayne Co. In district finals.  The team who just played Lincoln Co. down to wire…

I wouldn’t say McCreary played great. I’ve seen there other players play much better this season.  McKinney was a non factor and has had some very good games this year.

Don’t think so. Outside of him don’t really have anyone to threaten the defense. McCreary chased Turner and sagged off everyone else.
