One of the best games I've seen in a long time.

Mason looked rattled early and only had one FG in the 1st quarter which tied it at 5 before Scott finished the quarter on an 11-0 run. At one point in the quarter, I think they missed 5 straight FTs too.

As mcpapa mentioned, Miller had a good all around game and some of the other major players came on strong late. Mackey had 13 of his 15 in the second half including a dunk to close it out and Walls was 8-8 from the line in the 2nd half. Middleton didn't score until the 6:00 mark in the 4th but finished with 10, including a couple big threes.

Also the Phares kid (#33) came up huge off the bench for Scott Co with Lee in foul trouble (picked up his 4th in the first minute of the second half). I don't know that I ever saw him miss.

I think the key stretch was with about 4:00 left, Middleton hits a 3 to pull within 3. On the next possession Mason misses two FTs, Portwood hits a 3 on the other end, Scott gets a steal and Portwood converts a 3 point play. What could have been a 1 point game becomes 9 in about aminute.

Here's what I've got as a box:

MC: Miller 6 9-13 23, Setty 3 3-4 11, Pawsat 5 1-1 11, Middleton 3 2-2 10, Scott 1 0-3 2, Browning 3 0-0 6, Downing 0 3-4 3, Stahl 1 0-2 2.

SC: Mackey 7 1-2 15, Walls 3 9-10 15, Hundley 1 2-4 4, Lee 4 0-0 8, Portwood 6 1-1 15, Burchfield 1 0-0 2, Phares 7 0-0 14.

Just curious as to why you would rank Ballard ahead of Mason. They havent played head to head and this same Scott County team drilled Ballard right here in Georgetown by 21 earlier.Mason only lost by 5 and actually had several chances to win tonight in Georgetown.:p

True but was the first game of the year for Ballard as was a 86 -74 win for Scott County with Lafayette .. Ballard has wins over good Long Beach Poly ,CA team won the King of Blue Grass and only one other loss to Lasalle , OH and a couple of wins in FL and 2 wins in the LIT and could win it ......With 8-10 players that can play !!! You look @ Mason County with loss to Lexington Catholic and ot with Russell and a 55-57 win with JBS ...... Mason is a great and will only get better ......

Impressive that Scott Co won as poorly as Walls and Mackey shot the ball tonight. Neither one of them even hit a 3 tonight. They usually hit several.

Richie Phares, the big sophomore center played great as did Tyler Portwood.

I predicted 72-67 on the predictions post. Man only if I could predict the NFL games on sunday that well, I'd be a rich man.

Sounds like Scott escaped with a close win tonight. I think this says wonderful things about the Mason County program. Although it goes down in the books as a loss, any team in the state that can come within 10 points of Scott has a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to. Another win for Scott, nothing new there, nice showing by Mason. Cograts to both teams and their efforts.

I think if you ask Billy Hicks he will tell you Masons D had something to with it.He did on the radio show after the game.

Any word on when Ethan King will return for Mason County?

Good showing from Mason against a good Scott team. I actually thought this would be a 10 point game. Miller is tough and I hope he goes to UK...

A little closer than I thought but it must of been a dandy.

Unless they match up again, this could easily be the best game of the year. Matt and Bud proved that they're not just hype, they can play ball. When they couldn't hit they found someone who could, they didn't ball hog and they became roll players. I am so proud of them.

Mason's defense was very good. Most of the time that Scott Co cut they were met with a forearm. They did a great job. But at the same time Walls and Mackey had some good looks from the outside and missed a lot of shots.

Mason has a very good team and are a very tough team.
