Who competes with Pikeville

Featured Replies

Is there anyone in 1A that will be able to challenge Pikeville? I think a team with a quick D line and a good passing game would be the only chance.

Not this year...

Pikeville

Then everyone else...

Newport Catholic has the passing game. Their QB Smith is very good and Runyon is a super quick WR.

NCC threw for 71 yards on Beechwood. QB has a big arm, but inconsistent. Pikeville is heads and shoulders above the rest, and Raceland is probably next in line. Runyon for NCC is very good, but they don’t have enough fire power to beat Pikeville. Birchfield will run it down their throat.

How do you think NCC would do against Raceland?

Seeing as Raceland only lost to Highlands by 10, at Highlands, I’d say Raceland would be about a 14 point favorite, especially at home.

How big is Pikeville’s line? I know Beechwood had trouble against NCC’s line.

Beechwood had trouble against NCC’s line?

Beechwood had 188 yards rushing and 349 total.

Did you watch the game?

Nope I didn’t I haven’t been to a game all year long. I listened to it. I haven’t been to very many Beechwood games the past 10 years.

I do agree with you that it is Pikeville’s to lose.

Food for thought here. Paintsville threw for over 300 yards against Raceland.. BUT held them to -4 rushing.

Line is big but slow and their secondary is their weak link. If you have a solid passing game and some guys in the box that can move and get in the backfield you have a punchers chance. If you try to go one on one your going to lose. I do think Birchfield is the front runner for Mr Football. He’s tough to stop.

Beechwood’s sophomore running back, making his first start ever, put up more yards than NCC’s entire offense, I don’t think Beechwood struggled with NCC’s line.

I’m just posting on what our radio guys said in the 1st half. I know the second half they controlled the line of scrimmage so I should have said the 1st half they struggled.

Back to the Pikeville thread….but don’t throw out observations when you didn’t even watch the game. Pikeville is the clear favorite to win 1A, but anything can happen on a given day. Injuries always play a big part, if they stay healthy it’s gonna take a big time effort for someone to beat them.
