Probably because the past means absolutely nothing in regards to this year and helping these players. The past is going to help players from those schools be used to winning big games and making a run in the playoffs.

I also know current players HAD zero to dowith past success, and zero idea on what it actually takes to make a run. I also know all that tradition has done nothing to help them do much of anything the last 8 years. That is like saying the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers should be considered more of a favorite to win the Super Bowl still then the Buffalo Bills, all because those  two teams have won a lot of titles. 
 

Tradition should not automatically give them the right to be considered as being more of a favorite than someone who truly is a lot better. Just like tradition and past history wouldn’t mean the Patriots and Steelers are better than a team like the Bills today in the NFL.
