Big win by the Camels!!

 

 

Big win for the Camels after a couple tough weeks.

Late to the party but I had some observations about this game. I am not surprised by the outcome, but I am surprised at the score. On an emotional night like senior night, chance at third place in district, and almost a packed house, Dixie laid an absolute egg. This offense just simply isn’t working, and the worst thing that has happened to Dixies defense. And while you can certainly appreciate wanting to stay the course, it is obvious to anyone who has watched this team that it is one of the most predictable O’s out there and when it works, its sexy, but at some point, Burke and his O coordinator should have seen they did NOT have the personnel for that type of offense and made a change of some sort. Anything really. 

If I was a turkeyfoot parent, I would look hard at do I want my son to play at Dixie, or the other two schools down the street. I am still on team Burke and advocating for patience while the other parents are calling for his head. But after this outcome and the continued discipline issues they are having, it is starting to get a bit lonely over here on my island. I know they are injured and limping in to most games the past few weeks, but the number of flags is inexcusable. The left tackle at one point had back-to-back personal foul calls in this game, and stayed in for the entirety of the rest of the game. The days of being “young” and “inexperienced” become less of an excuse as the season goes on. For the seniors I hope they have a good showing against Scott this week. It will be their last opportunity for a win, being that Ballard is next week.

If Dixie has a similar season next year that coaching seat is going to get really hot.

Who played QB for Dixie in this game? I didn't see any stats posted yet.

Brach. 
When he plays QB, it leaves a huge whole in the defense.

Dixie is just undersized at every position, except for Brach. Without the beef up front, it doesn’t matter what type of offense or defense you run.

Everything you said is spot on. There was no adjustments made at all. It was the same thing every week wanting a different outcome. The two team system did not work at all, they just did not have the players. That might work at a school like cov cath or Beechwood but they don't even do that. They play the best players on both sides. It's high school and that is what is done. Dixie had some studs on that team and I feel they was misused all year. They could of been used on both sides and that alone could of won them more games. Then the hurry up offense has been a dumpster fire, racking up more penalties then first downs on numerous occasions. It's wore their own defense down most games, because they were on the field most of every game. That defense did a great job early in the year but, their own offense worn them down throughout the year with so many 3 and outs. Really sad for their seniors because there are some ballers in that group. Sad thing is I see dixie only getting worst next year with the seniors they are losing this year. 

For crying out loud, give Burke a couple of years. They had a tremendous turnout this year from participation and they have solid Turkeyfoot teams coming up the pipeline. People just need to relax and let him develop the program. If you cannot relax then grab a whistle and a whiteboard and coach the team yourself.

Everyone on this post is pro burke. He is a great guy and a great mentor. But if people can't call out obvious problems without others getting in their feelings. Maybe the ones in their feelings should jump on Facebook this ain't for you. No one is calling for burkes job. I personally believe brossart left him a sinking sink and he is bailing out the water as fast as he can. It's going to take a couple years for burke to make it his program, and he deserves that. But if you are looking for all rainbows and kittens Facebook awaits.

I am pro Burke as much as you are. Not all content in this thread is “pro Burke” as it was mentioned that maybe parents should look elsewhere for their kids to play other than at Dixie. That alone, was the impetus for my post. To your reference, go play for a team that has rainbows and kittens as mascots.

I am and have been very pro Burke. From the parent meeting when he came on board he set a very good tone. He seems like a no nonsense, but approachable guy. He knew he was taking over a program that would have an uphill climb this season with what they lost in staff and in players. If my comment was taken out of context apologies for that. IF I was a Turkeyfoot parent I would have a moment of pause right now (understandably with the current state of Dixie) on if I would send my son there for athletic reasons. To be clear I hope this is not the case. The numbers were up this year, and their practices are structured and fast paced. My son loves playing there still. And Turkeyfoot has some players coming to field a great freshman squad next year. 

I don’t agree with Bobby that while this senior group is a good group of kids and were decent players, nobody stood out. The senior group of parents were jaded with the old administration and fuel a lot of the discontent in the ether. By the way, for all the parents who were gassing up the bus to drive Brossart out of town, lol he is absolutely killing it at Lloyd as the OC. Dixie has a lot of good players on the roster coming back like Brach Rice, and has a couple juniors getting “looked at” by big schools right now too. He has been playing younger kids on both sides of the ball on Fridays. That experience will be invaluable for the future. Dixie will be fine and I am advocating for patience with Burke. One other thing I really hope happens is that Burke gets a few more coaches in the door. I understand he was very selective with who he brought with him from Ohio and who he brought on from Dixie. I do think it is a fair critique to say the inaction to make a change of any sort on Offense is my biggest gripe, and I hope to goodness they clean up the penalties going in to next season. I also agree with Guru if next season starts like this one, that seat gets really hot.

Well said. You are spot on. I am excited for the future of Dixie. Not state championship excited, just excited for year to year improvement, for now. Baby steps. I am curious. Did Burke run this offense in Ohio, and if so, how long before it clicked….if it did?

My understanding from the beginning of the season, he didn't get a full staff in and was unwilling to just take any coach to fulfill his staff.  He wanted to make sure they fit his philosophy as he didn't want any tension in his staff from day one.  I credit him for that.  With a full offseason, he should be able to fill his staff.  Also, for the first time in years, they should finally be able to field a true freshman team, because the numbers are there at TF.  It will be interesting to see how the offseason takes shape.

They didn't stand out because most of them had to play out of position all year long. For example, 68  is the size of a  linebacker, but he had to.play nose because he was the only one that could of done it on the team because of his strength. If that kid would of played linebacker sky was the limit. He still had a pretty good year at nose. If the defensive ends would of played some ol there line would of been way way better. If number 33 would of played some outside linebacker he would of stood out as well. He played there last year and excelled. That why I said the two team system didn't work and it was not the seniors fault. And yes they have brach rice coming back but not much more. They have a good receiver in number 3 but he has alot of drops and needs to work on holding onto the football. Number 7 is nice but he will be running for his life most of them time if they can't get any size on that team. That's not burkes fault. Brossart ran many kids off of this senior class. The whole fan base is glad brossart is doing good at another school. We will take burke hands down.
