September 28, 20224 yr The personal weather station in Gulfport from above is showing 1.39" of rain per hour right now.
September 28, 20224 yr It’s basically a Cat 5 now. I’ll be locked in to hurricane coverage all day today. Be safe, @swamprat.
September 28, 20224 yr My primary employer was having some problems with remote access and email so I went into work (Oldsmar) a little while ago. Got stopped as I crossed into Pinellas County (Oldsmar boarders Hillsborough County to east). The Sherriff's Deputy let me continue since I was just going a mile or so to the shop and the conditions were relatively mild, but he told me to make it quick. I was there about an hour. By the time I came out, the wind had kicked up and the rain was coming down quite a bit harder. The road was virtually empty.
September 28, 20224 yr Unless this thing heads back to the north, we shouldn't get any worse that what we got during Irma. My biggest concern was that it would stall off the coast of Tampa Bay and reek havoc for a couple of days as Elaina did Labor Day weekend 1985. A lot of people don't remember the Indian Rocks Pier. Elaina took that out.

However, my sister and niece just went out for a drive to look around before it gets too bad. (Sometimes I wonder about her). I will skip the TV coverage and watch outside through the window we did not cover that I am sitting next to. (I ain't all that bright, either.)

According to that, intensity just hit 1.9" rain per hour. Squalls. Most of the heavy rain and storm surge will be south of the eye. Venice, Ft. Meyers, and Naples. Gulfport/St. Pete is about 2 hours north of there.
September 28, 20224 yr I wish I still had access to my anemometer. Looks like the new owner took it down.
September 28, 20224 yr My god daughter in Ft. Meyers was posting on Facebook from a closet in her home a couple of hours ago. Haven't heard anything from her since. The eye of Ian is coming ashore about 20 miles north of Ft. Meyers with sustained winds of 155 mph. Ft. Meyers, being on the south side of the storm is taking the brunt of it.
