Wounded Eagles Fly East Into The Panther Den

Records: LCA (2-3) | Pikeville (2-2)

BGP Ranking: LCA (#3 in 2A) | Pikeville (#1 in 1A)

Series History: LCA leads 4-1 all-time

Table Setter: The last time LCA traveled to Pikeville, they suffered one of the worst losses of the Doug Charles era. Don't expect another 50-7 whoopin', but also don't be shocked if the Eagles take another one on the chin, as they've done the last two weeks. The absence of Cutter Boley has left LCA vulnerable, and CAL and Lexington Catholic took full advantage. Boley's availability might be of paramount importance to escaping the mountains with a win.

Pikeville comes in heading in the other direction. The Panthers appear to be at full strength and are teeming with confidence after flexing all over Belfry last week. Blake Birchfield is beginning to hit his stride with over 300 yards and seven touchdowns combined the past two games. He shredded LCA for 255 yards last year in Lexington, but it wasn't enough to overcome a loaded Eagles squad.

Don't let the records fool you. The win/loss for both teams is a product of arguably the two most demanding schedules in the bottom two classes.

Of course a lot depends on who can play QB for LCA. However, LCA defense has not been much help in most of these games against top tier opponents. LCA defense needs to step up and get it done for the Eagles to have a chance in this one. Two weeks ago I would have said the good news for LCA is Pikeville is one dimensional and LCA had their best defensive performance against one dimensional Belfry. Unfortunately for LCA, the last two weeks the Pikeville passing game has come on. I think LCA is in trouble in this one with or without Boley.

I'm gonna go with LCA in this one. I think there defense steps up big. Build there confidence on being able to win a tough game without there star player.

Mr. Football Spotlight Game

Birchfield is heating up. He more than held his own against LCA's studs last year. He doubled up Xavier Brown, who's turning heads this year at Virginia. LCA has given up some yards on the ground this season and Pikeville's offensive line loves to push people around. Keep an eye on #12 tonight.

Thanks @Morehead State!  I just signed up (it is free everyone) and I plan on watching this game.

The poll is currently 19 to 12 in favor of Pikeville and I am conflicted too.  I feel like LCA has the ability to be much better than they have shown so far.  Could tonight be the night against a quality team but not a team that will overwhelm them?

Is Boley playing tonight?

This video is really nice, all you have to do is give a valid email address and agree to have their stuff sent to you.

Run for a 1st down by Pikeville on the first play, really nice.

Pikeville is running right at LCA.

Pikeville walked into the end zone, LCA looked bad on that drive.   Extra point no good.

Pikeville 6 LCA 0

831 left in the 1st Q.

Boley is playing QB.
