I've seen this story in a couple places. It's completely unverified, but in short it claims the queen felt that Charles, and actually none of her heirs would have the stamina to be King past age 80, and she put a plan in place that would have them step down at that age (assuming they live that long).

Nice to see it's not just in my hometown where the old people complain that young people can't handle the work the old people could do.
