Tough loss for the Dawgs. I personally expected them to run away with this game. Hostile environment at St Hank though so congrats on the win Cru.

 

Holmes will be just fine though. They need a loss or two like this to wake them up. They need to get others involved. Hill and Rice can't carry the load every night. Once Jefferson gets back, they'll be just fine. No doubt in my mind.

Did Holmes recent transfer play last night. If so, what did you think and what role is he expected to play for the squad.

I dont see how Henderson does not score 20+ game in game out for Holmes.

I believe he is one of the best players in the region and one of the best in the state for class of 08.

 

Great win for St. Henry who keeps prooving themselves. Holmes is by far the most talented team in the region but looks like they need to fix many things.

Allow me to disagree with your assessment. Why any team guards him outside of 15 is beyond me. I've never seen the kid hit an outside shot. I'd run a guy at him when he starts to penetrate because he's very good at the spin move.

 

He is a very SOLID player but not in the top tier in any class.

Can't believe I missed this. I bet this is the first time in Faust tenure that he has had a team beat Holmes, CCH, and Highlands in one season.

As for St. Henry being the best team. No way. They might deserve a top 3 or 4 ranking but I saw them during christmas break, they have lots to work on. They really have been able to hang with every team they've played all year.

 

A big difference for them is getting Griffin back, he bring energy, speed, experience, and some points.

 

All season I was waiting for the CRU to go with a 2-3 zone and they hadn't. It really could have helped them in the Highlands game and in one of the Christmas break games, but now I see why Coach Faust waited to use it. BRILLIANT

 

Surprise player??? Matt Strahlendorf. The kid can flat out shoot, he just has to be more aggressive.

 

Overal a good win for the Crusaders but just like the CovCath and Highlands victories the losing team will learn more from this game.

Care to share why? They have 2 of the top 5 players in the region and are missing their starting point guard who is also a top 5 player in the region.

 

As I've stated all year, they are missing Jefferson more than some think. He is who helps Hill, Rice, and Henderson all get double digits game in and game out, while also putting in 10 + himself.

 

Holmes will be just fine. It's February that I'm more concerned with. I could care less what they do now. (Besides against CCH and HC ). It's better for them to get these losses out of the way now, so they stay hungry and don't get over-confident. But trust me, when DJ comes back, you'll see why they are the top team in the region.

You are probably right, but I have a feeling we might see last years Holmes Bulldogs rather than the Bulldogs who one the region, I think they are missing a true leader for this team OFF the court.

The 'care less' part just might be what the Bulldog's problem is too. Even though regular season games don't matter come tournament time, they do 'grow' a team in the meantime. If they're going to play a game of 'tortoise and the hare' then they may come to find the same end results that they saw last year. All that talent with nary a trophy to show for it. When they went to Rupp as sophomores the future was looking bright for them, but they might've assumed that it was a given that they would 3-peat, but you can't 3-peat if you don't 2-peat first. I've seen alot of teams this year play their hearts out as if it was a tournament game and I've also seen teams improve. They've got to put the work in now if they expect to see great results later in the season. They just can't assume that the 9th Region belongs to them. It's quite apparent that there's about 5 or so other teams who'd like to have something to say about that. If they're saving themselves for tourny time, Holy Cross and CovCath just might nudge them right out of a chance to play in the 9th Region Tournament on their home court. Nothing is ever for certain in the 9th Region. Just look at its history.

That true leader on and off the court is DJ. I think some of you are failing to realize just how big of an impact he makes. He didn't lead nky in assists the past 2 years for nothing. He is another little piece that helps make them so good.

He can hurt them just as much as he can help them. The last time I saw DJ on the hardwood he provoked a GIANT 'T' call that killed the Dog's chances in the 1st Round of the 9th Region Tournament against Dixie. He has had a great career at Holmes but has had issues with controlling his reactions on the court. Over time, I kind of expected maturity to take care of this problem but it never really has seemed to. Perhaps this, his senior year, he can be a controlled leader that can set good sportsmanship examples to the rest of his squad. Another big question is will his injury hinder his performance? We know that at full strength DJ is a great player, but will he have the strength and stamina to compete against all the well oiled teams later in the season? It takes a bit of time to catch up when you've been sitting out alot of the season and with his injury, who knows? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. That's what makes 9th Region Basketball so exciting. Every year it's always too close to call. It would be pretty anti-climatic if we knew at the beginning of the season how it was all going to go down before it did. But we don't and that's why I dig basketball and the 9th Region so much.

Yes, but I was at that game and they were up 6 at the half and should have been up double digits. Then the second half they couldn't find the basket. It wasn't a blow out until late.
