I agree with your assessment of the varsity game. Highlands look really good. I’d rank them at 1 or 2 in NKY.

Great post but stop with the Players missing. I could play the same game with missing personnel from Highlands Offense. But I wont. Two potentially very good Frosh teams. Love the Big Numbers by both Schools.

I think the missing pieces are relevant to the discussion. Im not taking anything away from Highlands and am aware of the super Frosh QB that didn’t play (I know him very well! He’s a stud). I’m sure Highlands also had kids out as well. My assessment is just one man’s humble opinion.

I agree the #’s were very impressive. Looking forward to seeing them play again!

Side note: I wish the powers at be were as lenient on playing with lightning in the background in Boone County as there are in Ft Thomas. Practice gets called w/ a light thunder from 20 miles alway here. They played with “the nothing” lurking a few blocks away tonight! 

Somebody was watching a different Freshman scrimmage than me. To say that Ryle is 3-4 touchdown’s better based on what went on last night is absurd at best. HIghlands line was clearly the bully in both the Frosh and Varsity matchups last night. Highlands Feshman line was able to push Ryles off the line almost every play. This will be a fun matchup on all levels this season.

Just catching up!  I have had conflicts on Fridays for the past and next couple of weeks; but can’t wait to catch birds in action!  Nice to see the swagger and nasty but personal fouls haunt (clean that up).  Line play in the trenches is great to hear!  RB skill will help as that was surely missed last year.  Just hope we have enough bulk to offset ground and pound teams.  I think the offense will be light years better!  I am not worried about Robinson and Dunn as they were beasts last year!  The rest of the defense needs to rally around them.

I finally had a chance to watch the Frosh video.

After that, it appears both teams have mostly back ups in. Also, after fumble recovery on series 4, Ryle played the next 4 plays with only 10 guys on D! Highlands capitalized and gained 40 yards during those 4 plays. Preseason blunder. Maybe contributed to 2 starting LB's choosing to sit out last minute before game, one due to sickness the other to injury. 

If you want to ignore the turnovers, 10 play stoppage, and the missing key pieces, then I guess you can say it's "absurd" to draw that conclusion. I guess we'll find out when they play again. 

I caution that this review is coming from a Highlands perspective with no intentions to knock any team or players ?. After watching the Varsity film, here are some things that stuck out. 

Both teams were pretty vanilla. Highlands looks real good in the 2 TE sets with Benke and Schneider blocking and available for play action. Makes the line so much more physical. Gielser, James and Hosea will be a good trio that can allow them to stay fresh all game. All 3 ran the ball hard. Once they settle on a QB, all they have to do is find the open guy which they still struggle with at this point. So much size and speed at the skill positions. Only Hinegardner is under 6 ft. but he will be one of the fastest guys on the field on many Fridays. The other receivers/TEs go 6ft (Class), 6'1 (Matteoli), 6'2 (Noon), 6'2 (Schneider) and 6'5 (Benke) with good speed. I can also imagine they will be able to do some creative things with Noon and Benke being able to sling it. 

I felt like Verax struggled to find the open guys and was real tentative passing. Seemed that way a little in 7v7 at EKU as well. Just needs to be confident and let it fly. #1 was dinged early and rightfully held out, so that probably attributed to the limited ball movement by Ryle. #12 for Ryle popped on film with his speed. Just missed on a couple of long passes. He can also provide quite a punch on the defensive side. Ryle's Varsity Offense did not score until Highlands had their JV Defense on the field. That was on Ryle's 8th offensive possession. Highlands LBs are very good this season. Robinson and Hodge are the anchors and they can add Fenik and/or Stjokovic in the middle to help stuff the run. 

Highlands special teams were improved from their performance vs. Male the previous week. Ryle was a bit sloppy on punt teams especially. They had one blocked in team sessions before the scrimmage. Had only 10 on the field at least once in the scrimmage and let Noon pick one up and return it about 35 yards when they apparently thought the ball was dead. Not sure what happened on that one. 

Best part about it is 2 good teams were able to see where some of their weak spots are prior to the season starting. It looks to be an exciting matchup in Union on September 16th. Good luck to both teams this season.

You seem like a great guy that love’s football but chill on putting imaginary TDs up on the board like they actually happened. I would have let you go if you counted them separately.

I can assure you I’m not a great guy.

We’re discussing a Frosh scrimmage with no special teams, 15 refs on the field, where turnovers don’t matter, no first downs, and drives that stop after 10 plays. Isn’t that imaginary football?

I wish the best for both teams. Hoping all players stay healthy and have great seasons.

You are the world's best hater.... You know nothing about Ryle football other than spouting off how bad they are because of a scrimmage and who they scrimmaged or that others say they are good or that they have beaten certain teams in the past few years? Scrimmages count for nothing so good thing all these teams play in season. Sk may win, Highlands may win or Ryle could win - all are solid teams. 

That being said I wanted to say I think Highlands has improved a great deal and loved the energy they played with in the scrimmage it shows the buy in to what Coach Sphire is trying to do there. Love it. 

As far as Ryle in the scrimmage they played sloppy and uninspired was the big takeaway they have a solid nucleus and some talented young players they are working in. I expect they will be ready when the season opens. 

The freshman scrimmage showed me the future is bright for both schools and should be fun to watch them go at it over the next 4 years.  

The running clock comment it could happen next week could happen to other teams. That's why they play the games v letting someone on a message board call wins / losses....
