5 wins (All district games and Bourbon County)

1 toss-up favoring Belfry (Pulaski)

4 games I expect Belfry to be a clear underdog (Pikeville, LCA, Central, and JC)

Going to be another grind of a season. Dixon is simply irreplaceable. With that said, all the licks Belfry took in the regular season with a very young team will help them bounce back. I am not sure they are going to be Championship caliber, but Haywood has proven that in Class 3A they remain firmly as the team you have to beat to win the Title.

Between Isaiah Stanley and Dre Young, Belfry will have the power covered... now they need to find the big play explosion. The O-line and defense should be improved.

I think you can pencil Belfry in as one of the Top 5-7 teams in 3A again.

Paducah Tilghman should be the clear class of the class, but Belfry will be a name once more to watch come November.

Same as it ever was!

Does anyone have any details on the Belfry/Raceland scrimmage?

Great schedule as usual.

Per reports: They didn't have hot dogs at the concession stand! ?

This picture is rinse and repeat and it's awesome. Players on the bleachers, assistant coaches in the white staff shirts and red shorts, Coach Haywood in the jacket and tie. And like most every other year, they'll be knocking on the door of a championship in December.

Belfry scored 4 times and Raceland 2. Supposedly 4 starters were missing for Belfry. I also have heard Raceland scored 3 and Belfry 2. So I really have no idea. From what I understand it was a Controlled Scrimmage.

I have no formal eyes that I have spoke and length and trust to report on it.

What I can add is Haywood essentially handles every scrimmage the same way for those who have ever followed.

Haywood loves this pattern and it achieves what he wants, but the drawback is it makes it not necessarily the most enjoyable viewing experience or the most practical format to assess.

He will do situational stuff like XP's & FG's first.

The scrimmage format will be (essentially) 10 plays starting at basically the touchback line. If you fumble or turn it over it only counts as a play. If a TD is scored you walk it back and keep running plays. Once the 10 plays are over the other team puts the ball on the 25 going the other way and gets their 10 plays. No score is kept.

Typically each team will get 5 or 6 sets of 10 plays on Offense. Belfry will generally have their 1's who are healthy for the first series on Offense and Defense. The 1's will continue for a second series but they will start rotating kids in and out throughout for ongoing position battles or subbing players who may be banged up in the slightest. By series 3 it will be essentially the JV team with no starters. Series 4 will be JV with rotation. Series 5 will be Freshmen.

This is where the score discrepancies seem to come. Not every team follow the same liberal substitution patterns as Belfry and prefer getting their 1's more reps in live action, nothing wrong with that, it's all about getting the reps however you best see helping or evaluating your team.

So where Belfry fans may not count a score against their subs, others may. Additionally, it seems when Belfry scores multiple times on a series of 10 plays including on shorter fields, it might not get counted the same depending on who is viewing. Furthermore, if someone is watching because their son is an underclassmen, they may also tend to include scores when the underclassmen are playing.

Long story short, from all reports of the Raceland scrimmage I have heard second hand:

- Belfry moved the ball very well on Raceland on the ground, with most of the negative plays being from self inflicted fumbles or botched Option reads.

- Belfry fumbled it a good bit on exchanges and timing wasn't smooth yet in the Triple Option.

- Belfry's young QB's looked very good when asked to throw.

- Raceland didn't sustain a ton of success in the passing game, but did hit a couple big plays. Their run game moved the ball very consistently on Belfry and looked impressive.

- The Raceland QB looked very good running the Read Option specifically. Very smooth and a good athlete with the ball in his hands.
