Craig Yeast is the new head football coach at Mercer County.

Yeast is from Harrodsburg and his wife is from Danville. I know he’s moved around quite a bit but I suspect the allure of coming home was appealing to the entire family.

I have never understood the fascination with schools hiring college coaches, especially ones without a winning background. The work day will change significantly with teaching or what ever the job may be compared to coaching football 24/7.

Yeast has 3 years of experience as a head football coach at the high school level, and 3 years of experience as a head coach at the college level. He has 6 total years experience coaching high school, and 8 years total experience at the college level.

In his 3 years as an assistant high school coach, the teams he coached saw an improvements in their W-L records each year. In his one year as a head coach at Bryan Station he took a team that was 1-10 the year before he was their coach and turned them into a 7-5 team the year he was there. At Freemont Ross he took a team that was 5-5 the year before he was their coach and turned them into a 7-4 team in his first the year there. They slid back to 4-6 his second year, which may well be on him, or as we all know about high schools, that could have been an issue with talent cycle as much as anything.

Regardless, if you look at his head coaching records, I would offer that Coach Yeast may well be better-suited to be a high school coach than a college coach. They're different gigs, and require different skill-sets. If you ask me, his resume shows an ability to improve high school teams with his presence coaching there.

I always love when the new coach always comes in and says this. Like every coach before them didn’t try to do that, and they were a lazy hack.

I agree with you to a degree.  But every coach does NOT come in and start outworking everyone else.
