Could you post some info about her...size, position, stats?

I think it would be interesting to see a side-by-side comparison of several of the supposed Miss Basketball candidates.

...Does anyone have comparable statistics for Melly Heaton, Rebecca Gray, Laura Terry, etc.?...

 

 

Stats for Rose Hill's Laura Terry are as follows:

 

'05-'06 - 18.7 pts, 7.3 rebs

'04-'05 - 18.4 pts, 7.8 rebs

'03-'04 - 14.6 pts, 8.8 rebs

 

Currently averaging 17.8 pts, 6.6 rebs

 

Career varsity totals: 1887 pts, 748 rebs

I know I may be biased, but as impressive as the numbers are for Queen and Terry, they are even more so when the realization hits you that these two have had to share the wealth. Gray is a good player, no doubt, but either girl from Rose Hill is more deserving. Consider last years sweet sixteen performance by these 2, the fact that they have to play the entire game most of the time due to not having a bench, and it is clear that either Terry or Queen would be very deserving of the Miss Basketball title.

I am not to sure on her exact stats but I do know she is 6'1"-6'2". She plays forward/center. She is avg. 20 some odd points a game and double digits in rebounding. I will try and get her exact stats for you all as soon as possible.

Who are the current candidates for Ms. Basketball, or is there a candidate list? I am unfamiliar with the process since none of my local, small town teams ever have a candidate.

From a small school "Carroll County" and probably won't get many looks, but Whitney Ballinger is the real deal. 6'1" can play all 5 spots. Hasn't had much help the last couple of years. Young team. She has signed with WKU. Will graduate at 17, Good numbers for a player that sees double and triple teaming every game.

That is really the reason I was asking...Carroll County is 12-2 and continues to look good in our region. I just wondered if these types of players get any attention.

 

She certainly is fun to watch and her young team is really developing well. She is also a top student, it is just nice to see her get recognition.

Haley Ratliff from Pike County Central is "doing it on both ends". For the season she is averaging: 19 ppg, 10 rpg, 5 apg, 5 spg. Her shooting percentages are drastically improved over her previous numbers. Overall FG Percentage is at 50, 3-pt FG % is at 39, FT % is at 83. Her assist to turnover ratio is 2.5:1. All of this while playing with three freshman starters and being the only senior on the team (with only 1 junior who plays any minutes).

The youngest of the Gearheart girls from West Carter I think. Was it 2001 or 2002, maybe? Her sister Marla is a referee now and does a great job.

I know the Gearhart's and they are a fine family. Very deserving of anything they receive. Awards like this are tough because every girl mentioned on here is deserving of high accolades. I wonder if their dad still has that whip? I might have to send him a couple of little Yaks for the summer. He is hard nosed to the core.

This thread lulled for a while, but I was exploring the KHSAA site and found that they list statistics for teams that send in reports. These are listed only for team leading scorers and leading rebounders. If an average is not shown below, the athlete was not listed on this site in this manner.

 

Just as more food for though and discussion, I looked up those who were mentioned in this discussion and provided the stats shown. Not all schools have reported stats this year, but since I had stats for Queen and Terry from Himmelfarb, I listed these in italics.

 

Also notice that the stats may not be in complete agreement with other sources, so I would use this for comparisons only as opposed to considering these as perfect. I could not find comparable statistics for 2003/2004.

This thread is beating a dead horse in a sense becasue its all on a personal opinion. I think the top two players are Gray and Queen. I do feel Gray is the better play,event hough Queen is amazing to watch. They both are hard workers and give it thier all and either girl would represent Kentucky well but i believe Gray is the slightly better player, and that is no slight to Queen, because she is amazing.

I agree about it all being personal opinion. And none of our opinions really matter because coaches select Miss Basketball and I doubt that every voter has seen every one of the top candidates. That is not their fault as they must worry about their own team first.

 

I will pitch my support to Hope Brown. She had a triple double in last night's win at Doss with 20 pts, 10 reb and 12 assists. She is averaging 21 pts, 6 reb and 6 assts per game. I like Queen and the way she plays. I think Gray has an advantage because of who she plays for and who she has signed with. Sometimes that early season lead is hard to overcome.
