Yep...he is a senior P - 1B this year.

Murray and Wagner play for the Kings

 

Baker plays for Bluegrass

This is not an insult to everyone else, it is meant as a tribute to Luke.

 

I am a completely unbiased 9th region baseball fan. I see almost every varsity team in action at one point or another. Luke last year as a Freshman set himself apart... not just in physical talent, but in knowledge of the game, class and the way he carries himself, unwillingness to slack off.

 

Only catcher that I have ever seen play a double header behind the plate and didn't let a single pitch go to the backstop. Regardless of base runners or not, he blocks the ball no matter how bad of a pitch.

 

It doesn't hurt that he has played under Bill Holocher as a coach with the KY Kids for the past bunch of years. In two years when this class is seniors, if you look at the all region team, you will probably see @ 5 or 6 players from Bill's KY Kids teams.

 

That being said, I like these other players:

Murray from Ryle,

Shanks from St. Henry

Farris from Boone (2nd best catcher in the region)

Popham from CCH. I heard he signed with Wake Forest for football.. not sure though. I hope he still plays baseball. Great kid and family.

Sullivan from Holy Cross

Ryan from Holy Cross

I agree Luke is a great kid; however, to put him in his own class is little bit much. I think he is a good catcher. There have been better and there have been worse. And yes, he did let the ball get by him a few times in that doubleheader. I haven't seen a kid yet, including my own, that is perfect. Luke needs to work on his mechanics throwing to second. Can be inconsistant at times.

 

With that being said, I think he will be a major contributor hitting for the Colonels this year.

One player that I believe is a sleeper but you'll see him in all the stats is John Smith of Holmes. Not syaing he's the best, btu definetly one of the top players in the region.

Blazejewski graduated last year. And I think you are thinking of Shane Taylor for Conner.

Show me where I ever put one kid on a level of their own with as much tallent that is in the 9th. If you read my post I give props to a lot of ballplayers. I've seen Luke play a couple of times and he is a good ballplayer, but he is not Johnny Bench in a high school uniform. And yes, you get a jump on the pitcher when you steal a base, but the throw has to be on the mark as well.

I am completely unbiased to both CovCath and Ryle, I dislike both schools with a passion (not because of personal reasons). But I can say that Maile is not the best catcher in the 9th region or NKY. He is only a soph. When he is a senior, 2 years from now, we can have this agrument. But its too early now to be posting stuff like bgpreppy posted.

The only one to have a say in it it the guy making out the line up card, and apparently his playing ability has impressed that guy enough to be a five year started in a very good baseball program. Since you decided to make this personal, mentioning my son and my initial, let me give you some facts because I did some checking.

I'll take a .383 leadoff hitter with a .510 on base percentage and the ability to steal a base anytime,(6.8 60 yard speed) and only 2 errors in a 40 game season on my roster. And he has exactly the same amount of home runs as your level one power hitter from the leadoff spot. One.
