This Friday night the Cardinals of Scott County will make yet another trip to "The Farm" the district championship. This will mark the 9th time the Broncos in their short history of a program will be playing the Cardinals. Scott Co. won 3 of the first 4 meetings their last victory was in the district championship game 3 years ago in 2018. Since that game Frederick Douglass has won that last 4 games by a combined score of 164-35 including a 35-0 win on Sept. 24.

Scott Co. is coming off a very hard fought 21-19 win over county rival Great Crossing in the opening round of the playoffs. Douglass has a easy 57-7 win over Montgomery County. This game will probably come down to how Scott Co. was last able to beat the Broncos in 2018 is to control the time of possession and keep the Bronco offense off the field. If they can do this it can be a good game, but if they get behind early it will probably another double digit victory for the Frederick Douglass.

Just recently I rewatched their first meeting this season. Here are some of my takeaways:

This was a legitimate game for a quarter or two. If SC's offense could keep the ball on the ground and stick to the program, they can move the ball.

FD missed a lot of opportunities because of overthrows or pressure upfront.

Douglass' kicker, Cooper Ranvier, has a cannon for a leg.

Dane Key is the real deal. He blocked hard consistently and never took a play off. Also had one or two spectacular catches to boot.

SC missed plenty of tackles behind the line of scrimmage. They will need these if they want to have a shot.

FD could've blocked every punt if they wanted to, but elected to play back and set up a return.

Scott County has a chance this week. The first game was closer than the scoreboard. Friday SC will need some help, probably in the source of defensive/special teams touchdowns, but it is possible for them to squeak out a W.

Anyway FD-24 SC-7
