Best Big Man in the land and why....

Featured Replies

Thabeet is good, just incredibly raw. He's very athletic for his size and has long arms and a good frame but he lacks basic shots and skills. IMO he needs to stay in school for at least 1 more season and be in the gym everyday. Let Calhoun teach him all he can, have a good season and show improvement then go to the Big Show.

I am not so sure that Noah or Hansbrough are going to be effective in the NBA. Both are really good collegiate athletes, but UNC and Florida's style of play help these two out a lot. Noah scores his points from dunks and layups while TH has a drop step and pump fake. Neither has proven they can hit a jumper.

Noah will be effective in the NBA because of his size and speed. He can guard a lot of different types of players and that will help him in the NBA. As far as being a scorer I don't know if he'll ever be a primary scorer.

Against a bad San Jose State team Josh McRoberts had:

15 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks

Chad Ford of ESPN.com has 3 true Centers going in the top 10 in next years NBA draft. (Oden - #1), (Thabeet - #9) & (Spencer Hawes - #10)

He has 3 Power Forwards going in the top 10 also. (Brandan Wright - #3), (Joakim Noah - #5) & (Al Horford - #7)

3 Small Forwards...(Durant - #2), (Bill Walker - #4) & (Julian Wright - #6)

1 Shooting Guard...(Chase Budinger - #8)

Just an interesting side note here is that Derrick Jasper comes in at number 100 on the list.

Also, another insider article to look at lists 13 freshmen with the potential to go in the first round. I will just list them along with the link.

I will be interested to see the matchups in SEC play this year with the great big men, Noah, Horford, Morris, Davis, and the tough yet not often mentioned Jermareo Davidson. Davidson is tough b/c he can face up or play with his back to the basket, and I believe that one on one, Davidson will be Morris toughest matchup this year.

As for the top big guys, you obviously have to mention Oden and Hawes. I'm not sold on Hansbrough even being the best big man on his team with Wright playing so well and doing so many things. I believe its easy to say Noah or Horford being the best in the SEC and some of the tops in the nation b/c they are two very good big guys usually going up against one good one. You have to pick one and hope it was the right one on a given night basically. I am reserving judgement on the SEC guys because things have definitely changed with some of them.

Oden isn't nearly the best yet....he is not seasoned enough, he got exposed bad against UF..

And he isn't 100%. I wouldn't rank him there now, but he could very well be the best by season's end...

McRoberts -vs- Temple...

21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks.

McRoberts averages like 11 points a game and not even 10 boards either. How is that worthy of top big man in the land when so many others are way above that?

12.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 4.2 assists/game, 2.64 bpg, 1.1 spg

He leads the team in assists....he is on his way, now worries.

Do you think he is the best big man in the country ?

Not yet, but there could be a chance by season's end, he is just starting to get comfortable with his role as the leader of this Duke team.
