For reporting purposes, here is a quick summary of Beechwood's game last night - total and complete domination, including by Beechwood's second team who played the entire second half. Newport may have had negative yards offensively in the game. They got their only first down of the game on the last play of the game. There wasn't a single play on Beechwood's half of the field until later in the fourth quarter. Newport had 7 or 8 personal foul/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Selfish, look at me football by several of Newport's players leads to a game result like this.

I have been told by a coach at the junior football level that Newport plays the same way. When he showed me some film footage it was confirmed. No place for this at any level.

That is completely unacceptable and the head coach needs to be held to account.

I agree but it is a very tough situation for a coach. A thin sideline means you need these kids on the field so the rest of the team can play a game. You have to teach the kids how to be accountable to each other. The team needs to learn that selfish unsportsmanlike penalty by him made it tougher for the entire team. If he cares about his team and his teammates, he would not do that. The team leaders at Newport need to fix that more than the coach IMO.

I hear you. If you say there is no player on that team that can be a leader, no coach in the world from Nick Saban on down can fix the situation.

Sure you can, you sit the player on the bench.

Then you start forfeiting games. I don't think Newport had a full second team on the sideline last night. That's my point. Sure, sit players on most teams and if they quit, they quit. Their choice. In a program with low numbers like Newport, if you want those other kids to play football, the options get limited.

They didn’t have enough for a full 2nd team, but Newport had a couple of players that should have been pulled and never put back in. Last night was about as bad as I’ve ever seen with all of the personal fouls and extra curricular stuff. The player that absolutely cheap shotted Parker Mason when he was looking up to catch the punt, should have not been back on the field again. They had to have at least 8-9 personal fouls last night.

I agree. It is a very tough situation for a coach and the answers there aren't as easy as they are at other places.

I disagree.  Take the worst couple of offenders and sit them.  Maybe only for a quarter but you have to do something and if you don't have enough players to finish a game then maybe that makes an impact.

That could be the answer. Obviously whatever is happening now isn't working.

Right, where are you Coach Weinrich?
