SK got hosed in this game. It started out as basketball, but turned into WWF. Hester went out after the 1st quarter and looked bad limping and holding his chest on his way to the training room. I really think the SK coach did him a disservice by letting him play in the third quarter because he seemed to me at least to still having some problems not only with his ankle but with breathing. Refs let this game get out of hand completely. Hurd got two quick fouls in the 1st quarter and sat out much of the rest of the first half.... Look for another Basketball game turned into a WWF match up tomorrow morning as SK plays Louisville Central at 9am in Gym #1. LC was in their game against Russell for the first half, but then Russell put LC out for what I think was rather easy win....

I thought the officiating was OK except for the touch fouls on the SK center. Agree that SK would probably have won if Hester hadn't gotten injured. I don't think the best team won this game but that's basketball sometimes.

KnightsDad, I am not a SK fan, not even a fan from their region, far from it.....but I wonder if you and I saw the same game? I realize that in different regions, referees call different types of games....but this was not a good effort by the men in stripes at all... Sorry, but I will stand on my opinion of the men in stripes, at least for this game.....

 

I had to tell a SK fan that LexCath was not homering for HC, (the SK fan really thought that) and I told the fan how this was the first time that I can remember HC playing in the 5th/3rd because of the ban. I told her that when you come to Lexington, get ready for a battle, as the Referee's don't call much (doesn't bother me at all, as I have seen far too many games in Lexington and I understand the style of officiating) but the SK fan didn't take to kindly to my explanation at all.

I didn't keep up with it, but I would say Simon Kenton was ahead with Hester in the game.

 

Bad shot selection killed Simon Kenton down the stretch ... they took some bad, quick shots with the game on the line.

Hopefully Hester can gain his health back, he's the key to the team, but not all that upset to lose to a good team like HC, they are 5-3 with losses coming to Lafayette and BStation two very good teams. I'd take my chances in a rematch knowing Hester was not at full go, and Hurd getting only 4 points, still a bright future for this group, hopefully they can make a strong finish in the Jim Schue bracket.

I just got home from the game and there were a couple things that I noticed in this one. Before Hester got hurt he could not be stoped he drove and scored on Henry. The injury did look to be pretty serious he could not even stand up on the foot at the end of the game. SK with Hester in the game would of won by 10. When he was in the game SK would get up by 8 or 10 then Hester comes out and they would blow the lead, it was like that back and fourth the whole game till finally he could not come back in.

 

PS The officiating was not the best but the game was in Lexington.

I agree that if Hester had not gone out with an injury in the 4th quarter Simon Kenton would have won. He is an exceptional handler of the ball and very quick. That combination made him without a doubt the quickest player on the floor last night....and that's saying something as HC has a very quick guard in Minnifield.

 

With regard to the officiating there were a few calls against SK's big men where they no doubt had their hands straight up. Those should have been no calls and did put the big man Hurd on the bench with foul trouble.

 

The game was refereed with two quality officials that I have witnessed many times. They did let them play down the stretch but as an objective observer they were not homer refs as one SK fan kept yelling.

 

Bottom line is that when Hester went out the HC pressure and athleticism won out.

It is a team sport but you have to agree one or two guys can change the outcome of a game. SK was lost without there floor leader on the court and could not break the HC press.

Just for the record Gumbo Daddy, what is your team??? I think a lot of people are posting about this thread that are concerned with SK and HC or the 8th region and the 11th. Simon Kenton and Henry Clay will be contenders in their respective regions. This was no doubt the premeire opening round game in the 5th 3rd. Hence all of the talk and speculation about it. I am a huge SK fan and I can tell you without a doubt, that Mike Hester is the main cog in this SK team:thumb:

Hurd picked up 2 ridiculous fouls in the first 3 minutes and he sat the rest of the half. Then Hester had the asthma attack and missed the rest of the first half. I don't think he should have been back in there so soon to start the 3rd quarter, which was when he hurt his foot. I'm pretty sure he didn't see action at all in the 4th.

 

Bottom line is that if Hester doesn't get hurt SK wins. Minnifield is a heck of an athlete, the only problem was that he thought he was playing football. He was playing dirty which to me detracted from a big win for HC.

SK was in control most of this game under Hester's leadership. He sat most of the 4th qtr with a bad ankle, not asthma. IMO, had he played, SK wins a tough, physical contest.

 

 

That's how I saw it too. HC looked frustrated at times....making faces at their coach. Hester doesn't get hurt...different outcome.
