December 21, 200619 yr The word around the office is that next year (2007), you will not be able to buy a single opening day ticket. You will have to buy a package of 20 games, possibly 10 games as they're not sure yet. They know fans will be upset, but they really don't care, because they'll make more money this way.
December 21, 200619 yr So word to send to the fans, We dont care about you, just the $$$$$$ You just now getting that message. They sent that message out about 15-20 years ago. Neither player nor team does. Just like the workers and owners of a Lazarus does. They care about the $$$ you bring. Somehow fans have lost track that these are businesses just like McDonald's, Walmart, or any others.

They NEED us in order to survive. There is no NEED for us to go to Reds' games. We can survive life without it. However, we NEED a store like a Walmart, McDs, or Lazarus to provide us with the essentials to live. Therefore, the Reds' cannot do business in the same manner as one of these stores mentioned. Castellini was desperate for fans last year. He's going to continue to be desperate pulling things like this. Until he puts a proven winner on the field, the fans will continue to stay at home. As of right now, I haven't seen any offseason moves that would justify me buying a 20 (or 10) game package. Now, if they Reds made the playoffs last year, and return this year with the same players, I would definitely consider that package.

What happened all those years to people when there wasn't a Walmart. And Lazarus, I have been in that store once in my life. As long as they are the only supplier of the entertainment of baseball in this area and people love attending baseball games, they can do within reason more of whatever they want then a McD's, Walmart or Lazarus.
December 21, 200619 yr For the record, I have no problem with this. Anyone upset about this is probably not a true Reds fan anyway and it would probably be better for a real fan to get an Opening Day ticket anyway. I knew about 10 people who went to Opening last year that didn't go to another game. Good for the Reds, good move.
December 21, 200619 yr I actually agree with this if its 10 games. Usually people that actually follow the reds cant get tickets to opening games. It will just show who the true fans are. 10 games in not the many games either to go to.

December 21, 200619 yr Maybe Castellini's thinking is, if he can get the fans to pony up the 10 or 20 game package then he might have the manhood to pony up for a good free agent????

I would assume from this post that you are not a middle class person trying to raise a family with two children. I was able to work in the budget opening day tickets two years ago. NO WAY I can work it in to purchase a package like is mentioned. Now I will attend with my son and rest of the family 2-3 games per year but no way I can afford a package of 10-20 games. And yet, I would classify myself as a Reds fan as I will listen to about 120 games per year on WLW with Marty, Thom and Jeff.

You don't even know it will be a 10-20 game package so lets hold off saying that. Do you hear Bengals fans complaining about not being able to buy single game tickets to games this year? It's called supply and demand it's how our whole economy is set up, he will sell out those packages. It's smart business. I never understood why some people think that these pro sports teams owe anything to their fans. They don't, it's a business. We love them like its more but trust me it's not.
