What happens if Morris leaves after this season?

Featured Replies

We will have nobody. Carter will never develop into a player and the 2* player coming next season will possibly be another bench warmer. Does Tubby and the staff have a player in reach if Morris leaves after this season?

I would hope it is the #1 focus of recruiting because I don't believe Morris is a student at UK in end of April/May.

I'm guesing that your'e correct. I saw a thread earlier this season wondering if folks secretly wished that Morris wouldn't have a monster season so he wouldn't be tempted to go pro. That's quite the dilemna - do you hope that a player (and by extension, the team) hass less success in the short term iin the hopes that it will lead to another year in college and therefore more long-term success?

Another 10-loss season.

Tubby will get fired when Lucas and Patterson go elsewhere. If Morris leaves and they don't come to KY there is no way Tubby has a job next season.

Hey WM, is that glass half-full or half empty?

Me being the half full type, I see it being a possible positive. Pitino's teams NEVER had a strong post threat from the center position. They played an offense with NO POST. There was a lot of cutting and movement. Presently, with Morris and any strong post threat, it slows down the game and movement because you are looking to get them the ball at the low block.

Without Morris, you now have NO low post threat. You move 5 out, rely on a lot of cuts and movement both with and without the ball. Lane is now open for the dribble penetration and finish or kick because you don't have 2 or 3 behemoths in the lane post and defending the post.

Losing Morris could open up the offensive game and create the movement that so many fans are yearning for. And play like the Pitino teams did when they had no post threat from the 5 position but relied on post threats to come from Walker posting, Delk posting, etc.

I do not see Tubby being "fired" at the end of this season unless this team has a major collapse. If the status of a coach hinges on bringing in a recruit(s), Tubby would have been fired a few years ago.

Pope, Riddick, Dent, and McCarty were all centers and all played in the NBA. He also turned Nazr into a great post player. Granted Walter and Pope could shoot, but they could also play the post.

Without a true 5, they would look and probably play like a mid-major team. There may be exceptions to the rule, but you pretty much have to have some good bigs to win in the SEC.

Great centers with their back to the basket, not sure of.

Riddick by no measure was an offensive juggernaut. Dent could dropstep and power move but not gifted with offensive moves. McCarty and Pope was more dangerous from the perimeter than on the post.

Nazr became one, spent one year as one and then left. And that was under Tubby, not Pitino.

Centers does not equate to back-to-the-basket players in today's game.

Do you think Antoine Walker being SOOOOOO good in college with his back to the basket had anything to do with that? 4 Centers and Pope was not primarily better from the perimeter. He could shoot, but unless he was wide open he didn't.

Post #6, I end by saying that Walker was the post threat. And you are right he was very, very good.

Also they weren't great with their backs to the basket but those 4 centers were a definite threat to score from the post.

They were serviceable but not a threat where you would want to go to them 15-20 times a game as you would with Morris.

Pitino did a masterful job to look at matchups and did not stick with the normal, post at the block with his back to the basket mentality. He was the first that really used the 4 and 5 as a outside scoring option from behind the arc.

If any of the 4 were on this team instead of Morris they'd get 15 shots a game. They didn't have to be the option like Morris is.
