Jordan was the best to ever play...he used and abused everyone who ever guarded him...so, what's the point?

There would be very few, if any, would be my guess.

 

Obviously, I like Kobe...he's my favorite current NBA player.

 

BUT...

 

...no one touches MJ. He's the reason I started watching basketball. There are a lot of similarities in Kobe and MJ...the way they look, the way they carry themselves on the court, etc...but like the Bengals are Colts-lite in the NFL...Kobe is MJ-lite. No shame in that...

They are a lot more similar in their styles of play, defensive abilities, etc. than most would like to admit. If Kobe collects a couple more rings, his argument becomes a lot more valid. It was around this point in Jordan's career (Kobe's age) where his shot became almost automatic and unstopable.

I agree that they're very similar. I agree that Kobe still has time to make this argument more valid by winning more rings and by taking his play to another level. At this point, he's an MJ clone, but the sequel is never as good.

We have to remember Kobe isn't even back to 100% this year. I think the Lakers will win a Ring if not next year the year after that.

You are right. They won't win it this year. But the next few years is when they have some cap space coming up. You really think they are going to let Kobe go through his prime without some more help to make them legit contender. Heck if this team was a bit older say 2 years. I think they could be a legit contender. They have all the right pieces, the players just arent there yet.

Now, if they got smart and went after, say, Kevin Garnett - they might be in contention.

I guess only time will tell.:sssh: I think KG is out of there this season. Its very very obvious he is frustrated especially after he thought he was getting AI. I think it would be best for him and the Wolves. Get something for him now while you can. If you wait to long he will be on the decline and you will be desperate to get rid of him. A little bit like the Lakers did with Shaq except Shaq was a bit older.

I think the Kobe and the Lakers will win another ring at some point. This team has already exceeded expectations...young guys like Bynum, Brown, and Walton have really improved...there's no reason for me to believe they won't continue to do so with more playing time and experience. Bynum especially is an interesting guy...the Lakers were obviously high on him out of high school, and he's progressed pretty well for a young guy, I'd say. It's no guarantee, but I could see him being a very good center within the next 2 or 3 years. Free agent additions or not, I think the Lakers will only get better.

 

People who say otherwise are blinding themselves to the facts.

 

If they get Garnett, that should make them a front-runner.

 

That said, I still don't think Kobe will ever be as good as Jordan.
