  1. Covington Catholic (16-2)

The Colonels keep plowing forward staking their claim as a team that no one wants to face, and IMO it wouldn’t be a stretch to rank them also as the Number 1 team in the state. They’ll smother you with their relentless defense, and they're loaded with guns who can score in double figures on any given night. 

 

The Colonels have a challenging week ahead of them where they’ll be taking on St. Henry, Ashland, and Bowling Green

 

  1. St. Henry (10-2)

W-Campbell County 68-55

 

The Crusaders only played one game this week, while they had intended playing many while defending their All ‘A’ Classic State Title, but Mother Nature and her naughty son the White Death had other plans. Thankfully though the All ‘A’ will be a go and they will face Walton Verona in the first round at Walton Verona this Thursday at 7:00. 

 

Aside from playing CovCath on Tuesday, The Crusaders will face Walton Verona on Thursday in the first round of the All ‘A’ Classic en route to defending their 2020 All ‘A’ Classic State Title. 

 

  1. Highlands (13-4)

W-Newport Central Catholic 82-60

W-Newport 83-45

W-Bishop Brossart 79-51

 

Highlands continues to impress going 3-0 this past week in commanding fashion. Vinson, Muller, Herald, and Harris can all light it up so it makes it very hard for teams to know who to try to stop. 

 

The Bluebirds have Simon Kenton, and Rowan County this coming week. 

 

  1. Beechwood (15-5)

L-Covington Catholic 61-75

L-Gallatin County 75-77

W-Campbell County 73-55

 

We’ll keep Beechwood at 4 though they went 1-2 this past week with back-to-back losses. No one can really fault them for losing to CovCath as they also, for a while, made a game of it. The head scratcher was their loss to Gallatin County, but by all accounts the Wildcats are better than their record would indicate, and just simply out hustled the Tigers. Beechwood redeemed themselves by taking care of business against Campbell County. Downton for the Tigers continues to impress, and it’s also worth noting that Scotty Draud is on pace to recoup his Dad’s all time 9th Region scoring title by overcoming Dixie phenom Brandon Hatton who currently holds the title. It could very well happen within the next 6-8 games. 

 

The Tigers are looking at games with Holmes, Scott, and Newport Central Catholic this coming week. 

 

  1. Dixie Heights (14-3)

W-Newport Central Catholic 49-38

W-Bracken County 78-42

 

Dixie has gone 11-1 in their last 12 games, and have proved themselves legit Top 5. They have impressive ball movement, and 4 players who can score the ball in double figures on any given night. 

 

The Red Colonels have games with Scott, Holmes, and Cooper this coming week. 

 

  1. Conner (11-4)

 

(1-0)

 

W-Ryle 75-41

 

Conner only played one game this past week, but made it clear who was the class of the 33rd District as they dismantled Ryle by many. 

 

The Cougars will face Lloyd and Campbell county this coming week. 

 

  1. Holy Cross (10-5)

L-Covington Catholic 44-78

W-Augusta 96-95

 

The Indians really took one on the chin this past week by being annihilated by the Covington Catholic Colonels in an important 35th District seeding game. Some may give it their best shot, but I believe that this game helped to dash any 9th Region team’s hopes of taking down this multi-headed monster. Sure, there was never really any doubt about it, but it’s hard to ignore the final score with this one. The Indians then got to have some excitement in a close one with Augusta where they just sneaked out of there with a one point win in a high scoring affair. Though the Colonels held Jacob Meyer to below his average, he was back to his old tricks scoring 41 against the Panthers. 

 

The Indians have games this coming week with Cincinnati Trailblazers Home School and Bracken County

 

  1. Newport Central Catholic (6-6)

L-Highlands 60-82

L-Dixie Heights 38-49

 

The Thoroughbreds went 0-2 this past week in Losses to Highlands and Dixie. Nothing really to be ashamed of as they’re both great teams, but I’m sure that it’s hard for them to realize that no matter how competitive they are this season, they’re sorta playing for the pride of it, and getting as many wins as they can. Who knows though, by regional tourney time, and the luck of a draw they still might have a chance to sneak into the semi’s or something. 

 

NewCath will have a busy week with games against Augusta, Bracken, Beechwood, and Holy Cross (Louisville)


 

  1. Lloyd Memorial (5-8)

W-Bishop Brossart 60-55

W-Ludlow 65-46

 

The Juggernauts’ never-say-die attitude is starting to pay off as they’re riding a 3 game winning streak, and won 2 games this past week. I think the word is out now that they’re not a team anyone should sleep on. 

 

Lloyd has only one game this week against Conner. 


 

  1. Ryle (7-6)

L-Conner 41-75

W-Boone County 61-58

 

Ryle suffered a terrible loss to the Conner Cougars in a 33rd District seeding game, then redeemed themselves beating Boone County in a close one. While they might be having a so-so season, they do have an assortment of players that can really light it up from behind the arc. I don’t want to miss any names, but Sr. Tyler Bush in particular really stands out as a decent player. 

 

Ryle will be looking at Cooper this week in a 33rd District seeding game, and also a game with Ludlow. 


 

  1. Boone County (3-9)

W-Cooper 64-57

L-Ryle 58-61

 

The Boone County Rebels got the signature win they’ve been looking for in taking down the Cooper Jaguars at Cooper in a 33rd District seeding game where they mostly dominated until a furious comeback try by the Jaguars in the 4th. The Rebels do not lack talent, and in this game especially they got a 31 point game out of Jr. Cole Shumate. The next day they lost a close one to Ryle where they were in it the whole game. 

 

The Rebels will face Bellevue, Newport, and Williamstown this coming week. 


 

  1. Cooper (3-7)

 

(0-2)

 

L-Campbell County 36-59

L-Boone County 57-64

 

The Jags are really struggling this season along with being sidelined just about more than any team in the 9th due to COVID. They were finally able to get back at it this past week, but they didn’t fare too well going 0-2, and especially in their 33rd District seeding game loss to a Boone County Rebels team that has also been struggling this season. 

 

Cooper will take on Ryle this week in a 33rd district seeding game, as well as games with Newport and Dixie. 



 

  1. Holmes (3-7)

 

(0-0)

 

Holmes didn’t play this past week.

 

The Bulldogs will be back at it this week with a 35th District seeding game against Beechwood, and also games with Dixie, and Campbell County. 

 

  1. Newport (5-11)

 

(1-2)

 

L-Scott 58-60

L-Highlands 45-83

W-Trimble 62-58

 

The Wildcats went 1-2 this past week, and while they were lucky to get one W in they’re a team that seems to look lost, and are frustrating to watch as they stand around a lot, and have terrible ball movement along with lazy passing. 

 

Newport will face Boone County and Cooper this coming week.

L-Lloyd Memorial 46-65

 

The Panthers will have games this coming week with Calvary Christian, Heritage Academy, and Ryle.

L-Ludlow 46-71

 

The Green Devils have a busy week ahead with games against Heritage Academy, Villa Madonna, Nicholas County, and Bellevue. 

 

  1. Villa Madonna (3-12)

L-Ludlow 43-64

L-Williamstown 46-51

 

Villa Madonna will play Ryle, Bellevue, Dayton, and St. Patrick this coming week.

The Bellevue Tigers will take on Boone County, Covington Latin, Villa Madonna, and Dayton this coming week.

W-Jackson City 59-58

 

The Heritage Academy Eagles will face Dayton, Ludlow, and Portland Christian this coming week. 

 

  1. Covington Latin (0-7)

The Trojans will face Bellevue and St. Patrick this coming week.

I've heard the Bowling Green game is off. Maybe somebody else can confirm.

Not sure if you were only given matchups or are giving where the games are to be played, but Ashland is at CovCath.

The Tomcats play North Laurel at Lexington Catholic March 5 and LexCath plays Dunbar. The following night March 6 Ashland plays Dunbar and Lexington Catholic plays North Laurel. Both the Knights and the Jaguars are undefeated at this time.
