So 2 of the biggest complainers(whiners) get MVP awards, wow.  That and three straight regional championships are not enough.  Hopefully they can find a coach with same success that can also appease the complainers.

They had that.  A good young energetic coach that grew up playing high level soccer, them for 4 years in high school and 4 years collegiately.  To some, that was not good enough because HE cost them w

Well for anyone that was holding their breath for Nina Kearns 2.0, it isn't going to happen.  She emailed thanking the Highlands soccer family for her end of the year gift that she received and informed everyone that she has truly enjoyed being back on the sidelines coaching the girls but for this fall she was going to once again move over to the other sideline to cheer the girls on.

Unless anyone has heard anything differently I am still thinking the candidates front and center are:

Stephanie Graves - interviewed

Greg Baker

Woody Sherwood

Then probably some others but I haven't heard anything......feel free to add if you know.

GO BIRDS!!!!

No surprise that Nina does not want the job.  It will be interesting to see who the choice is and whether they can handle the hornets nest that is Highlands Girls Soccer.

Will hazard pay included in the package for the next Highlands coach?

Kind of surprised that this job has not been filled yet.  Lots of admin changes at the school might be the culprit.

Is it really that bad over there?

I would have to let someone answer that who is a bit closer to the program.  Three straight region titles and trips to state tourney with one runner-up was not enough to please some.  Had a good young coach who was a Highlands grad and ran him off.

I am really perplexed on this.....but hey it took them a long time to hire the football coach and most everyone including me was getting nervous and the early dialogue is that they found a good one with Sphire, so I am holding out for hope that they are going to hire a good fit for the program that is full of talent.  I realize that there were some issues with certain parents and players.....which makes me scratch my head, b/c I didn’t see it.  I saw a coach that treated my daughter with the upmost respect and a daughter that loved her interactions with Alex, Joe, Nina, and all the other coaches.  Never ONE DAY did she come home from practice or games upset about ANYTHING........NEVER!

You put Alex’s resume in front of me and change his occupation from Girls Soccer to Football coach and the results he had after what 8 years of Wief not getting out of region, I would think that all is right in the world.

I’ll add this b/c i was around during the Duffy era in Football and the issues parents/players have with Alex smells very closely like how Duffy unfortunately was treated during his tenure.  The parents/players just younger then me despised the guy.  I thought he was tough but the one’s I know respect the heck out of him and he made those group of players circa 88-93 want to run thru a wall for him.

Seems like the “soft” people don’t understand a coach that expects your very best and focus and work ethic......

Deja Vu??

Sounds like they are having a lot of difficulty getting quality candidates to apply. After many of the stories I have been told by extremely trustworthy people who are close to/involved with the program, I honestly cannot really blame candidates for not wanting this job. It is a big red flag when your former HC had great success and still took a job that was - in my opinion - a lateral move just to get away from the program; especially when you consider that he as an alumni and certainly would have opportunities to win titles at HHS sooner rather than later.

There is A LOT of girls soccer talent walking the halls at HHS; however, it seems that parents and a sense of entitlement are ruining the student-athletes' opportunity to get a good coach and therefore have a great experience in high school athletics - which is the sad part of all of this.

Here is to hoping they can find the right fit to lead these young women; they deserve it! Parents... stay out of the way!

Excellent post.  They had a really really good young coach and ran him off.

So good hire or not?  Hopefully this coach has the ability to please the masses that have complained over the last three years despite winning the region in all three.
