A question for Somerset fans?

Did Somerset play up next year to 3a or did there enrollment decide it? Just asking because I thought it strange to move from 1a to 3a and skip 2a...

Somerset petitioned the state to move up to 3a next year. Enrollment would have them in 2a next year.

Ok, thanks...I was just curious....Had they stayed in 2a and been in the district with Corbin, Middlesboro and Leslie Co, that would have been one heck of a district...

The new district includes Casey County, Garrard County, Jackson County, Taylor County and Wayne County. I'm not sure "travel time" was the only reason, but it was the stated reason!

If I remember correctly, didn't Somerset complain mightily several years back because they were in a district with Danville, Harrodsburg and Frankfort and opposite Bardstown, Campbellsville, etc.? They said they wanted to move to a "closer" district, but it included three games in Harlan County?!

Somerset was in a district with Danville, Campbellsville, Harrodsburg, Metcalfe Co., Green Co.(Not Frankfort). The reason they left the district is b/c the district was completely split up. Metcalfe and Green went west and Somerset went east. Somerset did not nor will they ever switch districts b/c they don't think they can compete. If Somerset would have stayed 2a in the new allignment then they would be traveling almost 2 hours for every district game except Corbin. Somerset also has scheduled Corbin as a non-district opponent next year. I don't think they are running from anyone. Every game in the new district will be less than an hour travel time and that was the sole reason for the move.

P.S. - Somerset won a region in that old district with Danville, Bardstown, Frankfort, Campbellsville, Harrodsburg, etc. Your argument doesn't have much backing.

I'm surprised they let them play up in a district that already had 5 teams and moving from one with only 4...I thought # of teams in a district played a part in the decision to allow teams to or not to play up....I maybe wrong...

Somerset is just making it a habit of leaving where they dont want to play. Why cant they just be like the rest of the state and play where they are supposed to?

Okay when you look at the teams in the 2a district and then look at the teams in the 3a district which one seems more like a "district"/"region" in terms of geography? Thats what I thought... Thanks tho!

Asfor the Corbin game, BIG difference palying a team in a home and home as opposed to playing a team year in and year out in district play. As far as "running away" whether Somerset is or isn't, The perception is much to overlook...twice.

Ok, then why dont things stay like normal and they stay in the weaker of the two and compete?

It didn't happen twice. Harrodsburg and Danville were switched to a district with Frankfort and Carroll Co. (among others) while Campbellsville, Green Co. and Metcalfe Co. were placed much further west. Our old district was split up, Somerset is much closer to at least Lynn Camp and Williamsburg than they would have been to the majority of teams in either of the other districts. Also what is the difference in playing a home and home vs. a district. Trust me if you know anything about the Somerset/Corbin rivalry neither one will take it any easier on the other just because it isn't played for seeding purposes.

Somerset won 1 region title in the old district, in which they played for four years. That Somerset team (1999) finished fourth in the district and made a surprising run to the state semifinals. During the four years that they competed in District 4, Somerset was 5-4 in playoff games.

In District 7, where they have now competed for four years, Somerset won three district championships and were 7-4 over four years with two region championships. They were annually considered the cream of the crop in District 7 and were often mentioned among the top 5-8 teams in the state. Hey, I'm not faulting you for wanting into that southeast Kentucky district. I'm not sure you could have been a top team in District 4. You won a lot of games and put some trophies in the case in the new district. But don't act like it was all about geography and travel, just like the move to 3A next year isn't all about geography and travel.

The only one's that seem to be upset about Somerset moving up to 3A are the teams in the new district. So I ask, who is afraid of who? :sssh:
