E'town looking for breakthrough, CAL looking to get back

Year one under Ross Brown has been a rousing success thus far for Elizabethtown. The Panthers sport a spotless 11-0 mark, and sit one win shy of the program's first state finals berth since 2003. They've stood at the doorstep of joining 3A's upper echelon for the last several years under Ross' father Mark Brown, but were foiled by Lexington Catholic ('15), Central ('16), and Boyle County ('17) on the semifinal stage. A missing ingredient in those years was elite quarterback play. That's not the case this season, as Clay Games has been one of the state's finest signal callers, sporting over 2,100 yards and 29 touchdown passes. His most impressive number, however, is zero, as in the number of interceptions he's thrown.

When it comes to waiting in the wings for your turn to shine, CAL can empathize a little with E'town. The Centurions were among 2A's best for years before finally overcoming rival DeSales to take that next step and claim a pair of state championships. Another thing they have in common with the Panthers, is outstanding quarterback play. Connor Clayton Masters has lived up to his name, showcasing masterful ability at times this season. He's thrown for nearly 1,900 yards and 24 touchdowns in two fewer games than his E'town counterpart.

With both offenses featuring top notch quarterbacks and skill people galore, look for a key defensive stop or turnover to play a major role in deciding the outcome. E'town has a decided edge there, having forced 27 turnovers this year and scoring ten non-offensive touchdowns.

There's not a lot of history between these two. E'town swept a home and home series in '05-'06 and CAL returned the favor in '17-'18.

I feel like CAL is a slight favorite but wouldn't be surprised at all if E-Town wins this one.

E-Town dispatched of a Union County team easily that's better than what most what give credit for.

CAL 28 E-Town 21

I think CAL has a issue with speedy backs Glasgow’s Long destroyed them on the outside last night and CAL was also unable to run the ball so I’m going with Elizabethtown 35-21.

Etown is the sexy pick but I think CAL takes this one.  I hope I am wrong as I would like to see the Panthers advance.

If my memory serves correctly, I do believe this Elizabethtown senior class won a state championship when they were in the 8th grade at T.K Stone Middle.
