Douglass looking sloppy in the mud. Darius Neal certainly has been the best player on the field thus far.

Southwestern with an interception late in the 2Q with less than a minute on the clock and 75 yards to score...and they go back to the huddle instead of going with 2-minute offense, and then run the ball three straight plays. Not a great game plan for an underdog to pull off an upset in the quarterfinals.

If you spend most of your time in the bone, bad field, against a dangerous defense that if you screw up can house you and down by 1 with the defense playing well. Don’t try to force the issue. I’m not sure who got the ball first but if SW gets it to start the second half it’s not a bad plan. You force the issue with something that isn’t you and it backfires then that’s worse than running three straight times.

Most of Southwestern's success in the first half was on passing plays and on penalties against Douglass. They weren't able to run it in 2 yards to convert after their touchdown.

When it's a big game situation and you're the underdog, you need to start doing things you're not used to doing. Southwestern needs yards to score points. Playing conservatively against a team like Douglass in the state quarterfinals doesn't win the game. More specifically, playing conservatively against a team like Douglass in the state quarterfinals ends your season.

My point is that if that’s not who you are or what you do trying to be something else now will backfire. If they have practiced it and used it enough fine but the conditions are horrible for both teams. If you don’t throw the ball regularly than trying to throw a wet muddy ball is tough. If you throw the ball on a regular basis then you’re used to it. I’m sure they’ll come back to it but right then wasn’t the time to do it. A very athletic team playing pass first in slop could end up bad. Don’t force it and come back out by 1 instead of 6-7. If they are playing back and pass first sometimes you can break a run and things change but not in that case around midfield.
