Upstart Comets look to continue ascent

The Comets were here last year in the quarterfinals against Beechwood with a different outlook. Having broken through to the third round for the first time ever, West Carter was just thrilled to still be playing. That's not the case this year. Expectations are markedly higher with a very real look at the state semifinals in front of them. First things first…

Walton-Verona comes to Olive Hill on the heels of its seventh consecutive district championship. The Bearcats had their semifinal breakthrough two years ago and hope to position themselves as a perennial contender to reach that stage.

Walton-Verona likes to spread the ball around, making it difficult to key on one or two players. With the Comets, you know who the focal point if the offense is. Leetavious Cline is a darkhorse Mr. Football candidate, but beware, West Carter can make you pay with the passing game if you over commit to stopping Cline.

Walton Verona seems to be a lot more up-and-down this year than in previous years.  I don't see them being able to get within a couple of scores of West Carter.

I hope you are wrong VoR, big WV fan here.

They are, but if they come to come play this year this is a more than winnable game. They got a late start(COVID guidelines) compared to other schools with practicing. The passing game has become more prevalent this year and it took sometime for it to develop. The pieces have been coming together(New coaching staff members, COVID, injuries and practice time). If they can put the effort together that saw them easily handle Louisville Holy Cross and Carroll County last week, they will win this one.
