Dayton heads to Ludlow on Friday for the two to battle it out and determine who gets the #2 seed in the district for the playoffs. The bigger implication behind that is, for Dayton, the fact that 2020 is a solid shot for the Greendevils to make more than 1 playoff game for the first time since 1998.

If district records are any indicator, this game is somewhat intriguing. Ludlow is 1-1 in the district after beating Bellevue 54-8 last week, and losing 59-21 to New Cath the week prior. Dayton is also 1-1 in the district after a 34-6 loss to New Cath last week and a 22-13 win over Bellevue the week before. Ludlow would certainly appear to have the stronger offense (in addition to holding home field advantage on Friday), but Dayton seems to have the superior defense as shown by the Greendevils' ability to hold New Cath to 25 fewer points than the Panthers did.

Ludlow's Braxton Newborn is the top rusher in 1A by average yardage per game, with 198 yards. That makes him #3 overall in the state.

Defensively, Ludlow has Brogan O'Brien who leads 1A and is tied or statewide first place for interceptions with 6, and Dayton has Eric Jimenez who leads 1A in forced fumbles and is tied for second statewide with 4. Both defenses have forced 10 turnovers in their six games thus far this season.

This is an important game for the Dayton program. They've made steady progress over the last couple of seasons. However, coming off a loss to Newport Catholic, the possibility exists of a tailspin like last year. If Dayton can come out and beat Ludlow this weekend then that will say a great deal about their staying power and will bode well for their future.
