St. Xavier 28 DeSales 7

Featured Replies

Tigers get 1st win behind good defensive effort. Defense scored off pick 6 early in game. Tiger offense scored first TD’s of season. Tigers mounted several injuries with QB Giles Pooler getting hurt along with WR Michael Duddy and Safety Braden Wilson. DeSales fought hard and James Johnson stood out with lone TD and ran for over 100 yards and also played on defense. Close game until 4th quarter.

Sophomore Micah Carter had pick 6,  Soph. Jaxon Panariello made several tackles, Soph Teddy Meiers played well, and Freshman Eli Monks had sack and some tackles.

Some brief St. X observations:

- Defense played well against the run.  Pass rush was good. Gave up a couple of
long pass plays on one drive.  Ability to cover vs. quality passers is still a concern.

- Offense was rough in the first 2 1/2 quarters. Was much more productive with
Sivori than Pooler due to Sivori’s ability to run.

- Punter has a really strong leg but needs better placement when punting deep into
opponents territory. Kicked 2 into the end zone when he could have pinned
Desales deep. He had a couple of other booming punts that really flipped the field
position.  He can be a weapon.

- Overall a much-needed win on short preparation.

QB that can run harder to defend. Pooler is strictly a pocket passer and easier to sack and not much threat to run.

Also, offensive line did not play well. Still a major concern.

OL will probably be a concern all year. Will Sivori get more looks with the first team based off this game it is it still Pooler’s job full time?

Pooler was injured so will have to see when he returns.

Big win for the Tigers. They can build off of this and maybe salvage a winning season.

Even with the loss, this was a great pick-up game for DeSales. This was better than hammering an inferior opponent, or worse, not playing at all this week.

I thought you or some other X posted had said Sivori wasn't on the team?

Always felt like he was the best option. Wonder why he hasn't been starting anyway.

Happy for him; he's a good kid.

He came back. Glad coach gave him another chance.

Read in Courier Journal he had thigh bruise so should be back at some point.

After playing well against DeSales, freshman LB Eli Monks has been moved up to varsity. Not often you see a freshman contribute at varsity level for St.X.
