If Cooper is anything but a 100 percent BG could be in trouble offensively and really be in trouble for the game.

I was told he was 100 percent and had no issues but a few comments on here have me worried.

I’m being told from some reliable sources that he’ll be ready for Friday! Seems like a big scare for the Purples offense. Losing your QB is HUGE for any team. My sources point toward “IT’S A GO” for Cooper against the Spartans. Glad to hear it too.. makes for a better competition!
Approximately 1700 is the 30% capacity for the El... wondering if the hometown teams will fill that up? What are they doing with student sections right now?? Are they allowed?

So is he actually hurt, but still playing?

Not sure how they are handling attendance.  I plan to watch the broadcast on the Talk 104.1 Facebook Page.  It's a great Broadcast.

From my understanding, hearing from some parents, it was once thought he broke his left wrist during the PRP game. Pretty bad scare. Not the case though,  I believe we’ll see it taped for precaution. Possibly a really bad sprain. I don’t think a sprain will keep most of these kids, especially Seniors, from playing right now. They never know, with this Covid,  when their last game may be! I can’t say I don’t blame them!
On the other hand, BG wouldn’t let him take a chance if they thought he wasn’t ready.

Good information and good points all around.

As long as it doesn't hamper him BG should roll Friday.

Suppose to be great football weather tomorrow night! BG’s first home game.. nothing better than playing your across town rival FIRST! Hope to see a lot of offense and some big defensive plays! Two great programs! I hear SW fans saying this game doesn’t really matter for some reason. I think they all matter. They all do to the players for sure! Bragging rights are HUGE no matter what game it is.. especially during Covid times! Gotta play like it could be your last!

South Warren fans I've noticed tend to get real quite when they don't have a lot of confidence.

Probably why they haven't been on this board much the last two seasons.

GAMEDAY!!!

And my there is certainly plenty of bulletin board material available to both teams.  I guess in the social media society we have that is part of it!  I look for several early flags to calm both teams down.

It will be a great football night to watch this game at El Donaldson Stadium.  And it could be the last between these 2 prior to a 6.5 Million dollar field upgrade for the Purples to start right after this season and will be ready for the start of the 2021 Season!

Keys to the Game:

For South Warren:

1.  Do what you do - little to no rushing yards for BG's Javey Bunton.

2. Double cover Jordan Dingle all night.

3.  Put a spy on QB Conner Cooper.

4.  Do that and BG's offense will be minimized.

5.  On offense, give Caden Veltcamp and Kobe Martin time to throw and room to run.

For Bowling Green:

1.  Make QB Caden Veltcamp uncomfortable.  You don't have to sack him, but you have to make him hurry.

2.  Do what you do:  Similar to the St X game, run enough to move the chains.

3.  When QB Conner Cooper throws to guys who haven't been targeted as much (due to Dez Wilson on the field) they must catch the ball.

X Factors:

For South Warren:

- Will SR S/WR Jantzen Dunn (Ohio State DB Commit) play?  If he does, that changes things WAY better for South.  I think he does play some, but for how long?

For Bowling Green:

- I look for South Warren to neutralize RB Bunton and TE Dingle as much as they can.  Who else on offense is going to step up for BG?  If no one, it could be a long night.

Of course, turnovers, penalties and the kicking game are important for both but they are for any rivalry tough, competitive game.

Final Thoughts:

For South Warren:

I feel it will take a series or 2 to get up to game speed for them.  No offense, but playing Glasgow and Warren East isn't the same thing as playing St X and PRP from a game speed factor.

For Bowling Green:

This is the first home game of this crazy season.  They will be amped up.  Can they control their emotions to not take stupid penalties that extend drives for South?

Prediction:

While I will pick BG over the Kansas City Chiefs and admit my bias here, I honestly think this is a pick'em game.  Both teams can win.  I like the fact that BG has played a much better schedule and should be ready right out of the gate.  But, if Jantzen Dunn plays and can play effectively, that is BIG for South.  In the end, I am going homer and think BGs defense makes one more play than South's

Since I'm on a roll, I thought we'd also look back at this series since it's only 5 games old:

Game 1: October 20, 2017 - Regular Season at BG:  BG 43 - South Warren 7

This game is more the exception than the rule, as the rest of the games have been relatively competitive and are more of what you think between these 2 than this first game.

BG QB Beau Buchanan led the way for BG with 336 yards passing and 5 TDs including 2 to Nash Hightower.  South just couldn't get rolling in this game.

Game 2: November 17, 2017 - Playoffs at BG:  South Warren 28 - BG 21

South Warren was terrific in this game; completely frustrating BGs high octane passing game.  In a lot of ways, I think BG overlooked South here and South Warren to their credit made them pay.

Spartan RB Christian Winn was a warrior in this game.  The young man had 166 yards on 35 carries.  When's the last time you heard a guy carry it 35 times?  He was super this night!  BG turned it over 4 times and that was all she wrote and served a very bitter season ending pill for the Purples.

Game 3:  October 19, 2018 - Regular Season at South Warren:  South Warren 38 - BG 12

Many forget that the score was 7-0 South Warren at halftime.  But regardless of that, RB Cameron Harrison took over the RB role and made BG pay with 213 yards on 26 attempts with one TD, but South's ability to control the ball made BG press on offense and that didn't work out for them, as they turned the ball over 5 times in this game.  It was also the phantom "hurdling" penalty game.  Vito Tisdale was penalized for hurdling on a punt return early in the second half and it was just that kind of night for BG.  This South Warren team also had the Great Jacob Lacey, now playing at Notre Dame, who was a Senior in this game.

Game 4:  October 4, 2019 - Regular Season at South Warren:  BG 14 - South Warren 3

This was a defensive battle for sure.  With South QB Caden Veltcamp injured, South's offense was limited.  Still the South defense played very well, but Bowling Green's Javey Bunton ran for 86 yards and both BG TD's.  During this game at halftime, BG changed QBs to Conner Cooper and he's never looked back!

Game 5:  November 15, 2019 - Playoffs at BG:  BG 20 - South Warren 13

This was a terrific game that saw ebbs and flows for both teams.  It was a chilly night and South QB Caden Veltcamp made his return, although he was somewhat limited throwing the ball down field.  Both teams made some costly miscues which set the other up for short field scores.  The last of those was capped by a Veltcamp to Dunn TD pass late in the 4th Quarter.  BG received the ball and Vito Tisdale brought back a very good return.  From there Conner Cooper ran and passed his team to the 1 yard line, where BG's "Bowling Ball" RB JaVayan Collins rumbled into the end zone for the final score.

One interesting fact in this series:  Outside of the first game, which really is an anomaly, the team with the most rushing yards has won the game.  I think that plays true again tonight!  Go Purples!

Neutralizing BG’s stars becomes an easier job with Wilson out. That leaves SW with three - Cooper, Dingle, Bunton - proven guys to keep a close watch over instead of four. If the Spartans can keep those three in check, who else on BG’s side can step up and make plays?

Maybe no one will have to, because we have a 10-7 type defensive game where special teams play a crucial role. I think that's way more likely than a shootout, given how good both teams are, defensively.

Is it me or has the Dingle young man been around for 11 years?  That kid was amazing 2 years ago when Owensboro played them twice.  He was huge then!  I think the Purple defense will be too much - impressed by their speed and athleticism.  If it's close, I'll take the Purples.  I think I've already made a prediction, but in case I haven't:

BG 21-7

Beautiful evening at El Donaldson Stadium!

Purples on the field in gold pants and helmets and purple jerseys.

Spartans in all white with Black helmets!

Early views do not see #12 Jantzen Dunn for South Warren but it's early.

Good luck to both teams and no more injuries.

About 30 minutes to kickoff!
