Apollo hires John Edge as new head football coach.

Featured Replies

Per owensbororadio.com, Coach Edge will be announced momentarily as the new head coach at Apollo, coming back to Kentucky after two seasons as head coach at South Spencer High School in Indiana. Edge was the head coach at Owensboro Catholic from 2004-2017.

That South Spencer thing didn't go as well as planned. I think he'll have some success at Apollo.

Why did he leave O Cath in the first place?

Congrats Coach Edge and welcome back to Kentucky!

Why did he leave O Cath in the first place?

Per a friend of mine who was close to the situation at the time, Coach Edge left Owensboro Catholic to earn a larger salary at South Spencer. His wife had changed jobs, and the Catholic school system is not known for paying its employees well. The Daviess County Public School system, I'm sure, rivals the Spencer County school system in terms of salaries.

I can't remember exactly how the changing-of-the-guard took place at Apollo two years ago in regards to the timing of Coach Edge making the move to South Spencer. I do, however, recall thinking "If this timing had been a little different, John Edge would probably be at Apollo." The stars lined up correctly this time.

Good Luck to Coach Edge! Looking for positive outcome for the Eagles!
