Per the update thread it looks like Beechwood fell apart in the fourth quarter. What happened?

 

Poor shot selection, ill advized passing, and lack of rebounding.

I totally agree with you in everything you said. This is not a team effort and they're going nowhere with their present style of play. I firmly believe Beechwood has as much talent as anyone in the 9th region except Covcath but wilts against every good team they play. Last night I heard many fans grumbling about the lack of direction this team is going despite the amount of talent. On paper BW should be loaded next year with the returning players but unless something drastic happens it will be another underachieving repeat of this year.

I agree, how soon we forget. Wasn't they the only team to beat Covington Catholic in the region last year and lost a couple of nice players. I am not a Beechwood follower, just an outsiders thoughts.

I'm not saying Goetz can't coach, his past speaks loudly. Could it be something we're not seeing.

Goetz is not the issue. He knows how to coach and he has a very good staff. Was Faust a bad coach the two years before this year when St. Henry was an under .500 team combined? In 2016/17 Faust and St. Henry went 6-21. I don't think Faust has learned anything new or changed the way he coaches in each of those seasons to this year.

 

This Beechwood team is not nearly as talented nor skilled as last year's team. I think a lot of people over rate this team's talent. CJ Brannen and Mitch Schilling were poised leaders with ice in their veins and the courage to make big plays at crunch time. Most importantly they played under control and didn't force things. Duncan Baugh was that grinding beast inside that played his role to perfection and did all the little unnoticed gritty things that every team needs. Bieger was a playmaker. And the most unheralded was Zach Deatherage coming off the bench. Deatherage shot 64% from the floor and gave Beechwood an edge as an impact sub. Any one of those guys starting on this team would make them much better. It actually is commendable Beechwood is having the season they are losing all that talent and leadership.

 

The blame is not on Draud. That kid is doing everything he can. You cannot blame him when no one else on the team is stepping up and getting it done. Beechwood really needs a second and third scoring threat to take the pressure off of Draud. They probably should try to get more minutes to Rolf who shows potential shooting it and see what happens. The one kid who has grown by leaps and bounds is Rylee. He is still working off the rough edges but that kid is going to be an impact player.

Stats don't lie. Draugh has taken 492 shots in 25 games shooting 48%. The closest other player is Downton with 258 attempts....Rylee 121 attempts...Decker 114 attempts and Busald 108 attempts...everyone else...less than 100 attempts. No offensive balance. Unless the player shooting 492 shots is making them at a higher percentage, you can't win this way. It's hard to "step up" when someone is shooting you out of the gym.

To your point on shooting percentages, how does Draud's shooting percentage compare to the others?

Good question...and i apologize shooting percentage is Draud = 43%, Downton = 38%, Rylee - 63%, Busald = 45% and Decker = 35%, Rolf =43% and Huges = 46%.

You have 3 players shooting higher percentage than the player taking more than double the shots and one player taking 1/4 of the shots shooting the same percentage. It just doesn't make any sense to me?

These stats include both 2pt FG and 3pt FG. If you break it down to 2pt FG attempts only it is Draugh = 49%, Downton = 49%, Rylee = 63%, Busald - 71%, Decker =39%, Rolf = 66% and Hughes = 47%. So for 2pt FG attempts you have 4 players shooting equal to Draugh but taking less than half his attempts. It just doesn't make any sense.
