Ashland 66 Mason County 65

Featured Replies

Fourth one point loss this year which is heart breaking. Another game Mason should have won. Just can't make enough plays to win. Twice Porter took the ball base line to base line for layups in the last minute. Just can not happen. Mason playing much better.

And an overtime loss to Bourbon.

As a Mason County fan, I’m encouraged. Soner or later those one-point losses will turn into wins. They are showing that they can play with anyone in the 10th.

Congrats on the win. They are a fun team to watch. I am keeping up with them.

Thanks Goldie! You've been in my thoughts!

Frey, Jones and Schlach accounted for 45 of Mason County's 65 points. They scored 15 points each and shot a combined 20 for 35 for 57.1 percent. Those three also out rebounded Ashland picking up 26 of Mason County's 41 rebounds. But, Ashland found a way to win and that's what counts.

The future is looking bright for Mason County.

They won because they made more 3's.

Really happy for my Tomcats to get this win. They showed a lot of fight and never gave up in a game that on paper they should have lost.

Had you told me that Ashland would nearly be doubled up on rebounds, held well below their shooting average, missed key free throws etc. I would have told ya they lost, no matter who the opponent was. Getting a win out of that as well on the road at the Fieldhouse shows how this Ashland team simply finds ways to win games that they shouldn't.

Imo, this is as big of a win as any that Ashland has had this season. Overcoming adversity shows maturity, good coaching as well as basketball IQ and these kids are still really young.

Wait a minute, Ashland comes in rated #5 in the state and Mason County won't break the top 55 in state and you say on paper Ashland shouldn't win. I don't care if their playing in the fieldhouse or the outhouse there is no way this game should have even been close.

By "on paper" I wasn't speaking of numbers coming into the game, I was speaking of numbers as far as how the game went. That's mentioned in what you quoted from me if you look at the entire message as opposed to the one sentence.

The game was close because Mason County played extremely well, executed and killed Ashland on the glass. Huge growth over the past weeks from the Royals.

Also, Ashland didn’t shoot as well as they normally do with the exception of Hudson, but that can be attributed to Mason County’s defense. They also missed quite a few shots around the basket per the radio broadcast. Porter missed several driving layups that he usually makes but overall he played a great game. The kid is very good.

Villers came alive late in the game with those back to back treys that actually saved the day for Ashland.

When teams have a size advantage on Ashland, along with their shots not falling, the Tomcats struggle. They were soundly out rebounded yesterday. And it didn’t help that one of their best rebounders, Bradley, was playing on a bad ankle that he hurt in practice this week.

Mason County is a very solid team and getting better every game. That was a nice win at the Fieldhouse for Ashland.

Who does Ashland ever play that they have a size advantage over? LOL

Lol. You’ve got me there!

I have referred to them as a miniature version of Rupp’s Runts. They’re going to be outsized in nearly every game.
