Gallatin Co. 81 Walton-Verona 59

Featured Replies

Haha you honestly think I confused that with the middle fingers? No, she gave the middle finger on both hands, it was during the middle of play while the Gallatin County fans were looking over to the Walton fans to see what they were saying. I KNOW MY FACTS :thumb: , and maybe you should get yours straight before you comment on something that you clearly didn't see:sssh: .

I was there and didn't see that type of behavior from Gallatin's cheering section. If that did happen, it will not be tolerated at future games in Gallatin.

That's good to hear because it looks bad on the program.

Both teams should have positive years and good luck to both.

I have several observations about the game.

1) Gallatin/Walton-Verona has become a heated rivalry it seems. The intensity spilled from the court into the stands. Glad to see W-V brought a good crowd , which made for a great HS basketball atmosphere.

2) W-V's guards do not handle pressure very well

3) Officiating horrible on both ends

4) Spillywilly keeps pumping up Daugherty(must be related), but Josh Jones is W-V's most skilled player. He dropped 28 or 30 on GC last year, but i don't remember him scoring on this night.

5) W-V's big men cannot play at Gallatin's pace for 4 qtrs. Gallatin is much deeper than W-V.

6) Gallatin scores 95% of their field goals from 10 feet in. I can only remember them attempting 4 or 5 jump shots outside of that. That has alot to do with Gallatin advancing the ball up the court for 4 qtrs and W-V not being able to stop them for 4 qtrs.

7) Gallatin plays hard for 4 qtrs with a 9 person rotation.

8) Gallatin has had 15 double figure scorers in 3 games.

9) Spillywilly made the comment about losing to Gallatin not being acceptable in "his day". Well, get over yourself and get used to it. W-V is 0 for 3 the last 3 contests against GC, and will probably lose many more the next 4-5 years against GC. W-V will probably go on a run of their own after that. It isn't rocket science , these things go in cycles. When W-V was spanking GC 2-3 years ago, myself, Steelcurtain, WildcatLegend, MackThe Knife,etc....., did not whine and complain about officiating. W-V at that time was simply better, just as GC is now.

9) The game of basketball needs to be cleaned up. Way to physical. That being said, GC plays to what is allowed. They get after it defensively(typical of Coach Jones teams). For all i have made of Gallatin's offense, they feed off of defense. W-V scored 16 total second half points.

10) Obscene gestures made by fans ( if true) should not be tolerated. I can assure you if seen by administrators, it will be dealt with. That being said , i don't pay attention to that garbage because i am more interested in the game. Although, since i sat directly behind GC's bench i couldn't help but notice that on of W-V's former players sitting about 10 feet to my right making comments to GC's players on the bench . We all have idiots in our fanbase, so what.

11) W-V has a solid team that should win many games this year( with that schedule they should). I certainly expect them to duke it out for the All "A" 8th region title.

I do need to apolgize for talking about my time I got carried away with the whole thing and the attacks on me. I agree this has the making of a huge riviraly over the rest of the year. As for Jones he was the best shooter last year but he really has not performed this year at all. He looks lost on defense and has not been willing to take his shoot when it is open. If you ask me I think he is in his own head and trying to hard. With Daugherty I think if Walton is going anywhere this year he will have to carry them. He is the captian and the leader.

On a side note I did not see the gesture by the fans, but when did they start letting the fans stand right on the sidelines like that. They did the same thing at henry the other night and one player went for the ball and a fan knocked it away and nothing was said. Then another player fell into them and I believe a little girl got hurt.

I'm going to say that Daugherty is the best player right now on Walton's team. Jones is also their best shooter, but I think Daugherty just has more skill at this time and when he plays hard he can be very good.

The WV transition defense gave up a lot of those close buckets.

The game was way too physical, the players did a good job of keeping their composure in that there weren't any injuries or altercations.

I really enjoyed how the crowd's were getting into the game and I just happened to look over to see the gesture, then looked to the person next to me and asked if they saw it, which they did. I agree that there are idiots at all schools, I'm not a loyal supporter of Walton nor GC but the school I went to has them too.

In regard to the location of the fans on the sideline, I believe it is allowed because the bleachers do not come as close to the court as in many other gyms.

What do you mean by this? The same officials would have officiated differently somewhere else?

Just that visiting teams fans no matter whom the home team is feels as if they get cheated by the officials. I think teams get an identity, such as aggressive and hustling all over the place and officials will call the game accordingly.

Gallatin is starting off great this year. They are definitely a force to be reckoned with, for sure.

I have noticed in other games this year, the officials are calling a lot of fouls. I wonder if this will be the trend this year?

In regards to your observation on fouls, i hope so. The game needs to be cleaned up.

Gallatin seems to be on the right track. I hope it can continue.:ylsuper:

On the otherhand foul totals are misleading, Referee's might call 45 hand checks and let a player get absolutely killed on a take to the basket. In all three of our games this has prevailing trend. I agree that the game needs to be cleaned up but calling 37 weak hand checks doesn't stops players from losing their tempers and sure as heck doesn't prevent injuries.

I agree. That is what I have been seeing as well. Calling little ticky tacky fouls and ignoring the big stuff. Leads to a really hostile, frustrating environment.

Very frustrating for the fans, and coaches.....But very confusing for 16 and 17 year olds who can't figure out how you can't put a hand on the dribbler but can mug somebody on the way to the basket. Very very confusing and frustrating. :madman:

Yea they played but were in constant foul trouble and couldn't get in the flow of the game. The little they were in they both dominated play. In the game most people north of beaver lick claim getting screwed two of Gallatins top seven didn't even break a sweat.

I thought 30 for Gallatin played very well that night. When 22 went out for foul trouble early, he stepped in and played solid for the balance of the half. In fact, he scored double digits for the game. From my perception, he dominated the the inside game in teh first quarter, which kept Gallatin in the game the first half.
